Have you ever wanted to create your own website, but you still don't know how to do it? Making it happen may be easier than you think by following the steps outlined in this article. Here's how to publish one on your own domain.
Steps
Step 1. Establish the foundations
Your site must basically have two things:
- A unique name for the domain. Each domain is registered with a Domain Name Server (DNS), which maps a domain name to a specific Internet Protocol (IP) address.
- Space. Each website must have its own space. It is provided by a web server, many of which are run by private companies.
Step 2. Find out if the name you want to give your domain is available
There are many websites that offer this type of service (such as domainsbots - search engines for free domains) and will give you a sort of list of domains still available. Or, you can always try typing the name of the site you want to name in your browser's URL field.
Step 3. Find a website that can show you similar domain names that are still available
Typing the name of one already taken will give you a list of similar domains that are still free. For example, if you wanted to register “domainhostingcompany.com” you might notice that “domainhostingcompany.co” is available, but the domain “domainhostingcompany.com” is already registered.
Step 4. Register your domain
Find an Internet Domain Registry service and register your domain. (to find it simply type "internet domain registry"). You will likely have to pay a start-up fee plus an annual fee to keep the site under your name. Once the registration process is finished, the Registry will provide access to a control panel for the management of your website.
Step 5. Manage your website
From the control panel you can manage the disk space and how much bandwidth you have available monthly. You can also upload and download content and update files and folders directly to the site using the server's FTP address.
Step 6. Add themes
There are countless applications for changing the theme or design of your website.
