This article shows you how to copy an image or a piece of text to paste it into another application or place on your iPhone or iPad.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Copy and Paste Text
Step 1. Press and hold your finger on a word
This will bring up a dialog box in which the selected area will be displayed enlarged and the text cursor will also be present.
If you need to position the cursor somewhere other than that indicated, simply drag it with your finger to the position you want
Step 2. Lift your finger from the screen
A context menu will appear and two blue color selectors one to the right and one to the left of the highlighted word.
Step 3. Choose the Select option
This will highlight the section where the blinking text cursor is located.
- Push the button Select all if you need to select all the text on the page.
- Use the function Search for to find the definition of a word.
Step 4. Select the portion of text to copy
Use the selection handles, by dragging them on the screen, to highlight the area of text you want to copy.
Step 5. Press the Copy button
The buttons dedicated to the actions that can be performed with the selected text will be displayed on the screen; press the one indicated in order to copy the chosen content into the system clipboard.
Step 6. Tap a text field
Find where you want to paste the copied content. This could be a different area of the same document, a new document, or a different application. Once you have found the place to paste the text, touch it with your finger.
Step 7. Choose the Paste option
This entry will appear above where you chose to paste the text. The content copied in the previous step will be inserted at the indicated location.
- The "Paste" option is not displayed on the screen, unless there are valid contents within the system "clipboard" memory area generated by the "Copy" or "Cut" commands.
- Remember that it is not possible to paste content into a document that cannot be edited as is the case with most web pages.
Method 2 of 4: Copy and Paste Inside the Messages App
Step 1. Keep your finger pressed on a text message
This will display two separate menus. The menu at the bottom of the screen will contain the "Copy" option.

The menu that appeared above the selected message allows you to respond quickly and easily using some predefined icons:
- A heart;
- One thumb pointing up;
- One thumb pointing down;

- To copy the text in the box where you compose your messages, refer to the first method of the article.
Step 2. Choose the Copy option
It is visible in the menu that appeared at the bottom of the screen. All text in the selected message will be copied to the system clipboard.
Step 3. Select the target text field
Find where you want to paste the copied content. This could be a different area of the same document, a new document, or another application. Once you have found the place to paste the text, touch it with your finger.
Step 4. Choose the Paste option
This entry will appear above where you chose to paste the text. The content copied in the previous step will be inserted at the indicated location.
Method 3 of 4: Copy and Paste an Image from Applications and Documents
Step 1. Keep your finger pressed on the image to copy
This can be a photo in a message you received, on a web page, or in a document. A context menu will be displayed.
Step 2. Choose the Copy option
If the chosen image can be copied, you will find the option Copy within the menu that appeared.
Generally the images found on most social networking websites, documents and applications can be copied, but there are some exceptions
Step 3. Keep your finger pressed where you want to paste the copied image
Perform this step using an application that allows you to paste photos, such as the Messages, Mail or Notes app.
Step 4. Choose the Paste option
The image will be pasted and displayed in the indicated location.
Method 4 of 4: Copy and Paste an Image from the Photos App
Step 1. Launch the Photos app
It features a white icon with a multicolored stylized flower.
If you don't see a grid of small images on the screen, tap the item Album located in the lower right corner of the screen, then select an album name.
Step 2. Tap a photo
Select the image you want to copy. Keep your finger pressed on the chosen photo until it appears in full screen.
Step 3. Press the "Share" button
It is blue in color and is characterized by a square from which an arrow pointing upwards comes out.
If you are using an iPhone, the button is located in the lower left corner, while on the iPad in the upper right corner
Step 4. Choose the Copy option
It is characterized by a gray icon located in the lower left corner of the screen where two slightly overlapping rectangles are visible.
Step 5. Press and hold your finger at the point on the screen where you want to paste the copied photo
Perform this step using an application that allows you to paste photos, such as the Messages, Mail or Notes app.
Step 6. Choose the Paste option
The image will be pasted and displayed in the indicated location.
Advice
Some graphics applications are able to detect the presence of an image in the system clipboard giving you the possibility to paste it inside a new document or at the desired point
Warnings
- Always be careful when copying an image and text. If you paste an image into a text field it will display its HTML code and not the actual image. To avoid including images in the text selection, use the anchor points of the highlighted area.
- Remember that not all websites allow you to copy images or textual content.
