Body wrap has recently become a very popular treatment in spas. The technique is simple and you can try to experiment with it at home too, enjoying the benefits and saving a lot of money at the same time. Read on: you'll find tips on how to have a home body wrap experience comparable to that offered by spas.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Knowing the Different Types of Bandages
Step 1. Decide what kind of bandage you want to do
The body wrap is used to obtain various results. Personal creativity is always good, but know that there are several types of standard bandages.
- Healing bandages.
- Detoxifying bandages.
- Reducing / anti-cellulite bandages.
Step 2. Make a basic detox wrap
Once you've decided on the type of bandage, it's time to get the ingredients you need. You can choose to buy a ready-made mix, or make your own detox body wrap at home, using the following ingredients:
- 250 grams of salt (mineral, marine or Epsom).
- 750 ml of water (source or purified).
- 120 ml of aloe vera.
- 3 tablespoons of oil (shea, olive, sunflower or other), or 60-120 ml of glycerin.
- 1-2 teaspoons of essential oil or aromatherapy oil.
- A sachet of chamomile or other herbal tea, put in the water while you heat it.
Step 3. Make a basic healing bandage
If you suffer from muscle aches, stress, or a general feeling of discomfort, a healing bandage might be for you. The ingredients provided for this type of body wrap serve to eliminate the effects of stress and restore a feeling of well-being. Get the following ingredients:
- A few sachets of herbal tea (chamomile is ideal).
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
- Lavender essential oil.
- Peppermint essential oil.
- Essential oil of geranium.
Step 4. Make a reducing / anti-cellulite bandage
If you want to reduce the fat layer of some parts of the body, try a reducing / anti-cellulite bandage. This type of bandage has a firming effect, which will give you a drier appearance; it also serves to combat water retention. Get the following ingredients:
- 85 grams of powdered seaweed.
- 85 grams of Fuller's earth (calcium bentonite).
- 8 tablespoons (120 ml) of lime juice.
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of sweet almond oil.
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of clear honey.
- 4 drops of sandalwood essential oil.
- 2 drops of rosemary essential oil.
- 2 drops of lavender essential oil.
Part 2 of 4: Prepare
Step 1. Purchase large rolls of elastic bandage
The bandages, soaked in the mixture you have prepared, will adhere to your skin.
- The surface of the treated leather will be the larger, the greater the size of the roll.
- You can buy them at the pharmacy, but you can probably find them online at a lower price.
- Buy fifteen rolls of bandage. Try wrapping yourself with the dry bandage first to make sure you have enough.
Step 2. Buy some large safety pins
They will be used to fix the bandages. Bandages usually come complete with clips to secure them, but safety pins are easier to use and provide a more secure fit.
Step 3. Prepare the environment
The goal is to create a hygienically safe, secure and relaxing environment. Make sure you have plenty of space around you in which to move freely and relax. Bring with you all the decorative objects you can think of to make the environment more relaxing.
- Try using candles and playing some soothing music.
- Turn on the heat to keep the room warm and comfortable.
- Keep in mind that you will likely drip onto the floor and other surfaces, so have plenty of towels handy.
Step 4. Prepare the bandage
To do this, you will need to soak the bandages in the solution you have prepared. Stir the mixture well, heat it and soak the bandages in it.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil over medium heat.
- Pour the mixture into the pot when the water is very hot, but before it boils. Mix well to get a homogeneous solution.
- Turn off the heat before the water boils. Remove the pot from the heat.
- Transfer the water to another non-hot container, and pour 2-3 cups of the mixture into it: your pack is ready to be absorbed by the bandages.
- Dip the bandages in the solution and let it become lukewarm. To speed up the process, you can add a little cold water.
- For convenience, place the bowl with the bandages on a work surface that measures approximately one meter in height.
Part 3 of 4: Apply the Bandage
Step 1. Before putting on the bandages, take a shower
To allow the compress to work deeply, wash thoroughly and scrub.
Step 2. Undress
You must leave the compress in direct contact with the skin; clothes prevent the treatment from working properly.
If you don't feel comfortable, for example if there is someone to help you, you can wear a bikini, or underwear that does not lose color
Step 3. Stand on top of a large towel
Take one of the bandages dipped in the solution. Start wrapping it from your ankles, and work your way up the leg.
The towel will ensure that the floor does not get wet and slippery
Step 4. Wrap the bandage tightly
A tight bandage ensures maximum contact between the bandage and the skin. In this way, the bandage also adheres completely to the body, minimizing the risk of the compress leaking off.
But be careful not to squeeze too hard so as not to block circulation
Step 5. Complete the bandage of the first leg up to the knee
At this point, switch to the other leg.
Stopping at the knee and then switching to the other leg facilitates the bandaging operation
Step 6. Use safety pins to secure the bandage
If that's the case, feel free to use the clips you found in the bandage package as well. Either way, securing the bandage will prevent it from coming apart during the bandaging operation.
Be careful when using safety pins, as you may easily prick yourself
Step 7. Do not leave areas of skin uncovered
When you've finished one bandage, move on to the next. Band the leg up to the root of the thighs, coming as close to the groin as possible.
Try not to leave any areas uncovered. The knees must also be well covered
Step 8. Begin wrapping your hips
Starting at the root of your thighs, start wrapping your pelvis. Work your way up your torso up to your armpits.
- Work at your own pace.
- Continue to wrap tightly, and check that all of the skin is carefully covered.
Step 9. Switch to the forearms
Before moving on to the upper arms and shoulders, complete the bandage of the forearms. Secure the bandage at shoulder level.
- If you can, wrap your elbows well too.
- Tightly secure the bandage before moving on to the next one.
- If you wish, you can wear a PVC sauna suit at this point.
Part 4 of 4: Relax and Enjoy the Body Wrap
Step 1. Get comfortable
Find the best place to sit and relax during the treatment. The ideal laying time for the bandage is about one hour.
- If the compress is very liquid and tends to run, you can put yourself in the bath.
- If you decide to move around the house, be very careful.
Step 2. Relax
Once you've identified the ideal spot in the house to enjoy your body wrap, treat yourself to the experience of a fantastic home spa day! Enjoy the regenerating atmosphere of the environment and let all the stress flow away.
Read a good book or listen to relaxing music
Step 3. Drink lots of water
Take a sip of water from time to time to keep your body hydrated. Body wrap helps the body get rid of toxins, but can have a dehydrating effect.
Don't forget to drink a lot before, during and after the treatment
Step 4. Remove the bandage
Carefully undo the bandages starting from the top and working down until they are completely removed. Dry thoroughly and take a cold (but not icy) shower, to lower your body temperature.
- If you've used a mud pack, you'll need to scrub your skin longer.
- Keep drinking water to rehydrate your body.
- Apply a body cream of the type you want (moisturizing, emollient …).
Advice
- In order to fully relax, make sure you have a clean and tidy bathroom, and that no one disturbs you for a couple of hours.
- Ask someone you are intimate with if they want to keep you company. Tell him to take his products and bandages with him, and help each other put the bandage on.
- Ask at spas near you. They may be available to get you ready-made products. Even your hairdresser may be able to source them through their suppliers, even if the salon does not offer a spa service.
- The scientific community has not yet reached a unanimous consensus on the effective effectiveness of the body wrap in the expulsion of toxins and in weight loss.
- The bandages can be recycled for later use. You can wash them in the washing machine in warm water, with the program for delicates. Do not use fabric softener, and hang them out to dry (avoid the dryer). When they are dry, rewind them and put them away for the next use.
- Online you can find many recipes for home wraps.
- Do a search among the various essential oils to find the combination that suits you best.
Warnings
- Do not go for a body wrap treatment if you have health or circulation problems, or if you are pregnant.
- Essential oils are powerful, and should be used with caution.
- If this is your first time getting a body wrap treatment, and you don't know how your body might react, make sure you aren't alone.
- Do not get swaddled for more than an hour.
