Whether you're hugging your friend or cuddling your boyfriend on the couch, you shouldn't worry about your smell. Smelling good gives your confidence a boost and can also make you look more attractive. It all starts with taking care of yourself and wearing clean clothes. Then you can wear a couple of drops of perfume so that it becomes a kind of personal signature and make people wonder how you smell so good. Read this article to learn how to turn heads with your bewitching perfume.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Staying Fresh
Step 1. Take a shower
If you want to smell good, you need to be clean. How often you shower depends on your body chemistry, daily activities, and the weather. Many people do it once a day, but if you play sports or live in a hot region it might be a good idea to do it more often. If you have very dry skin, doing it every other day may be enough. However, make sure you wash often enough to prevent others from starting to smell your body.
- In the shower, wash yourself with warm soapy water to remove all dirt, sweat, and odor-causing bacteria.
- If in doubt, wash up! Trying to mask the bad smell with deodorants or perfumes won't work.
- If you don't want to wash your hair every day (many say it gets dry and damaged) use dry shampoo to freshen it up on days you don't wash it. It is made up of oils that absorb oils that make hair appear greasy.
Step 2. Use the deodorant
2% of the world population has a gene that prevents the armpits from producing a bad smell. They are lucky, aren't they? The rest of us rely on deodorants to keep the smell of sweat away all day. Put it on after a shower and reapply during the day as needed.
- You can choose an antiperspirant deodorant if you tend to sweat too much.
- Deodorants can be in stick, gel or spray. You can also try a natural deodorant stone, or make it at home with baking soda and coconut oil. Make several attempts to find the one that best suits your needs and that gives you a pleasant scent.
- If you are going to use perfume or cologne, you don't need an overly scented deodorant. Better not to have too many perfumes on at a time.
Step 3. Try talcum powder
Dusting some talcum powder on your body after a bath or shower is a good way to stay cool. Dry thoroughly, and then put some under your arms, on your feet and wherever you want. Talcum powder helps the skin stay dry and cool throughout the day, so it's very useful on hot, humid days.
- You can buy the one for adults or even for children - it works well anyway. Better to use an unscented version, because the one for children is recognizable.
- Don't want to buy talcum powder? Do it yourself! You only need cornstarch. If you want to perfume it, dip a cotton pad in your favorite fragrance or add a drop of essential oil. Place the disc in a jar and cover it with the starch. Apply talcum powder using a soft puff.
Step 4. Wear clothes that smell good
Wearing the same clothes multiple days in a row can change your scent, so catch up with the laundry! Use a scented detergent - or not, you choose - the important thing is that the clothes are clean.
- You may want to bring a change if you plan to be away from home all day. Some people prefer to have a spare pair of clean underwear, socks or tank tops in an emergency.
- If you work in an environment with a very strong smell or full of smoke, it is better to have some extra attention to your clothes, so that they always smell. Wash them more often with a lingering-scented detergent and use a good fabric softener.
- Dry-clean your coats and other non-machine washable garments every three to four months so they don't smell bad.
- Speaking of clothes, also check bags, backpacks, hats and various accessories. Wash them once in a while, especially if you use them daily.
Step 5. Try to have your feet scented
If you are worried about the smell of your feet, give them some extra care by scrubbing them when you are in the shower, then dry them well and dust them with talcum powder before putting on your socks and shoes. Bring a spare pair of socks to change during the day. Make sure your shoes are also in good condition, old ones are a receptacle for bad smells.
- Use one pair of shoes only for training, instead of only wearing one pair for school or work.
- Bring a travel pack of talcum powder with you so you can use it throughout the day as needed.
- Whenever possible, always use socks with shoes. Walking around without socks causes the foot to sweat more, and this leads to the bad smell.
Step 6. Freshen your breath
Good oral hygiene is the easiest way to get fresh breath. Brush your teeth and floss every day, go to the dentist regularly to treat or prevent plaque buildup so you don't have bad breath. In addition to your basic dental hygiene routine, you can keep your breath fresh throughout the day by following these tips:
- Drink plenty of water, especially during and after meals. Eliminates food residues and cleans the mouth.
- Use mouthwash - but the alcohol-free one. The alcohol in a mouthwash can dry out your mouth, which could lead to bad breath. Choose a refreshing but alcohol-free one and use it to rinse your mouth whenever you feel the need.
- Avoid garlic, onions, and highly spiced foods on days when you are "particularly" concerned about your breath. It's not easy to hide the smell of spicy foods with mouthwash, and the smell can persist even after you've brushed your teeth or rinsed with mouthwash.
- Try to have mints on hand to use when you want to have super fresh breath.
Method 2 of 3: Using Perfumes and Colonies
Step 1. Choose the perfect perfume
Look for a perfume that is consistent with your style and how you usually present yourself. The perfect perfume is the one that doesn't bother you if you breathe it all day. It doesn't have to be too strong, since many people are bothered by a scent that is too aggressive. Experiment with different ones until you find a few you like. You can wear the same perfume every day or use them in rotation.
- Choose different scents for different occasions. A citrusy, floral or sweet scent is perfect for the day, while you can opt for something more intense and musky for the evening.
- If you are looking for a more masculine scent, opt for a cologne with notes of fir, cedar and sandalwood.
- Perfumes change depending on who wears them. They interact with your skin's unique chemistry and vary throughout the day. Remember this when choosing one - if it looks good on your friend, it doesn't mean it looks good on you too.
- You can also perfume yourself with a cream or body oil if you prefer. Solid perfumes are also a great alternative.
Step 2. Put some on the places where the heartbeat is felt
Don't drown in a cloud of perfume. Use it strategically, so that the people who are close to you feel a breath of it, without being overwhelmed. It doesn't take much to go far, especially with perfume. Put it on your wrists, neck and behind your ears - it will be more than enough.
- If you use a spray, do not spray anything directly on the body and a short distance away. Hold the bottle a few inches away from your body and spray gently, then move your wrist or any other part of your body so that the mist created settles on the skin.
- Even if you use scented body lotion, you don't have to put industrial amounts all over your body. Use it in a few areas, such as your hands and neck. Use a fragrance-free one for the rest of your body.
Step 3. Perfume your hair
If your shampoo doesn't have a strong scent, you can add it. It's something nice, and a subtle way to keep smelling good throughout the day. Massage some perfume or essential oil into your hands and then gently run it through your hair. Alternatively, you can add a couple of drops of essential oil to your shampoo or conditioner.
Step 4. Choose a perfume that becomes your trademark
It is not a good idea to use 3-4 different scents to leave a trail when walking through the corridors. Instead of asking you for the name of your perfume, people will hold their noses when they see you coming! Wear only one perfume at a time.
- This means that if the body lotion has a very strong scent, you shouldn't wear your perfume too and vice versa.
- Make sure you don't accidentally have too many perfumes on. Deodorant, hairspray and lip balm can all be scented. Try to choose fragrance-free products or opt for one or two fragrances at the most.
Step 5. Try making your own perfume
If you don't want to spend a fortune on a perfume or cologne, you can make your own! Buy several essential oils, such as rose, lavender, lemongrass or vetiver, and use a few drops instead of perfume (NEVER pure on the skin, they are toxic!). You can also create your own perfume by mixing different essential oils until you find the aroma you like!
- To find essential oils, go to an herbalist's or health food stores. They are usually in the body care section.
- You can dilute the essential oil in water or vodka so that it doesn't smell too strong. Put it in a spray bottle and use it on your body and hair.
Method 3 of 3: Tricks to Have a Good Smell All Day
Step 1. Cool off during the day
You're okay in the morning, because you've showered, put on clean clothes, and so on, but it's best to take some time during the day to cool off a bit. Whether you're at school or at work, there are things you can do to smell good even if you've been standing or sitting at your desk all day.
- Brush your teeth or use mouthwash. You will immediately feel fresher and smell good.
- Apply more perfume if necessary. But don't overdo it - two small sprays are enough.
- Change if necessary. If you've been physically exerting yourself, then it's time to change your underwear and socks during the day.
- Use hygiene wipes to clean yourself quickly. Take the unscented ones, because the others have a very intense scent. Pass them on the areas that need to be refreshed and then apply the deodorant.
Step 2. Stay away from foods with a very strong smell
On days when you particularly care about smelling good, try not to eat too many onions, garlic, or spicy foods. These foods have components that stay around for a while, and can affect your smell and even your breath.
- Cruciferous vegetables, nuts and legumes change your breath. Eating a lot of broccoli, nuts, or beans could also make you feel bloated and full of air.
- Instead, eat fruit and other water-rich foods. They will cleanse your body and help you smell good.
Step 3. Keep your environment clean
Is your bedroom clean, or is there a bit of stale air? What about your car and other places you spend a lot of time? Keeping the space around you clean will help you smell good. Start by making sure the bedroom is clean. Put dirty clothes in a covered basket, hang or put away clean clothes instead of stacking them somewhere. Here are other ways to keep your spaces super cool:
- Perfume sheets and pillows with an herbal spray, add a few drops of essential oil to some water and spray it on the sheets when you make the bed.
- Wash your carpet regularly. Carpet tends to retain odors, and can affect the scent of the whole house. Between washes, you can cool it by covering it with baking soda and then vacuuming it.
- Wash the car. Wash the seats and air them periodically.
Step 4. Smells drawers and cabinets
If you want your clothes to always be scented, try keeping them in scented drawers and closets with aromatic bags. You can make them yourself by filling small fabric bags with dried lavender or other herbs of your choice. Place the bags in the corner of the drawers and hang them in the cupboards. They will delicately perfume your clothes and won't make them smell stale.
