The scab is a protective film that forms on the surface of wounds and is made up of dried blood, blood fluids, and dry immune cells. Its function is to repair the wound; therefore you do not have to remove it by force, otherwise you can cause irritation, slow down healing and reopen the laceration with the risk of infecting it. As difficult as it can be to resist the temptation, trying to peel an acne scab ahead of time when it is in a visible place can increase the risk of a scar forming. The right way to proceed is to keep it soft, hydrated and supple, while stimulating the healing process that is taking place beneath its surface. If you have a type of acne that causes scabs, there are methods to help the lesions heal quickly, but remember that they still have to go through the healing process before they disappear.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Cleaning Products
Step 1. Wash the scabs every day
You have to clean the areas damaged by acne twice a day using a specific product or an antibacterial soap; scrub vigorously until the skin is dry.
Use a clean towel each time you wash your skin blemishes, otherwise you could spread the bacteria, thus slowing the healing process
Step 2. Use the oil
After cleaning with soap, the oil helps moisturize and remove scabs; you can use castor, olive, almond, mineral or whatever you prefer. Take a clean cloth and gently rub the oil over the scabs; be gentle and apply very light pressure. Finally, rinse well and hydrate the skin again.
- This procedure eliminates some pieces of crust; however, you must make sure that you only remove those that come off easily, without forcing them to detach.
- The scab should come off within five to seven days; some may fall out sooner, but others may take a little longer - don't speed up the natural process.
Step 3. Use a warm compress
Dip a clean cloth in hot water and wring it out to remove excess moisture; then press it on the acne scabs for about 10-15 minutes, twice a day. Moist heat helps to soften the surface, to make it come off in a safer and more natural way, as well as stimulating its healing.
Do not rub the towel on your skin, just dab
Step 4. Take a bath with Epsom salts
Immerse yourself in a bath to moisturize blemishes and promote healing. Fill the tub with hot water, add some Epsom salt and soak the injured areas for about an hour.
Repeat the treatment every day until the scabs have come off
Method 2 of 4: Greater Plantain
Step 1. Get the greater plantain (Plantago major)
It is a plant with flat, elongated and narrow leaves that grows almost anywhere, you may find it in your garden too. There are several varieties, but all have the characteristic vertical veins in the leaves. Some people consider them to be pests, but they actually have many medicinal properties and can be used directly on wounds to protect them and promote their healing process; the leaves also have antibacterial properties.
- Most people fail to recognize this plant. In your garden or in the surrounding meadows there are many plant species and not all with healing properties; you can then do an online search and compare the images to find the one you are interested in.
- If you can't find it in the garden or nearby, you can order dried leaves online or from health food stores.
Step 2. Make a paste with the fresh leaves
Collect a dozen of them, boil them slowly in about 3 cm of water until they become soft; drain and mash them with the back of the spoon, waiting for them to cool.
- Once the suitable temperature is reached, add a few drops of your favorite oil; among the most suitable are those of almonds, castor or mineral.
- If you have dried leaves, you can mix them with an oil, boil them and make a paste.
Step 3. Apply the mush on the scabs
Once you have prepared the plantain leaf mixture, spread it over the blemishes and finally cover the area with gauze or a band-aid.
You can leave it on site as long as you want; keep it overnight and rinse it off the next morning or wait until you take a shower
Step 4. Apply the paste to your face
If acne blemishes are on the face, you can spread the mixture on the affected area two to four times a day; let it sit for 10-15 minutes. When finished, rinse your skin with warm water and pat dry.
Method 3 of 4: Aloe Vera
Step 1. Cut an aloe vera leaf
If you have this plant in the garden, cut a small piece and squeeze the juice inside directly on the rind; let it dry without washing it off. Repeat the treatment four or five times every day.
In some supermarkets you can buy aloe vera leaves in the vegetable department or you can buy a seedling to keep at home
Step 2. Use the gel
If you don't have fresh leaves, you can take the packaged gel. Apply it using a cotton swab or a cotton ball; you can leave it on the affected areas or rinse the skin to eliminate it after about 15 or 20 minutes.
Repeat four to five times a day
Step 3. Try it in cream
Aloe vera is available in a wide variety of products; you can use cream, lotion or ointment. Go to the pharmacy and choose the most suitable format for your skin problem.
Step 4. Recognize the properties of aloe vera
This plant has been used for centuries to promote healing; it has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes wound healing.
The gel keeps the scabs hydrated, thus stimulating the healing process
Method 4 of 4: Other Herbal Remedies
Step 1. Try onion or garlic juice
Apply a few drops on the acne scabs, using a cotton swab or a cotton ball and let them dry on the skin; afterwards, if you don't like the smell, rinse with warm water. Repeat the procedure four to five times a day.
- You can also let them act overnight.
- Onion and garlic can be irritating to some people; if their juice is too harsh on your skin, follow other methods.
- Both of these plants have antibacterial, antifungal, healing properties and can be used to promote healing of the epidermis without leaving scars, especially after surgery.
Step 2. Use honey
It has been known for hundreds of years for its healing abilities. Apply half a teaspoon of it on acne scars with a cotton swab or cotton swab, leave it on the lesions for 20 or 30 minutes, covering it with a plaster or gauze; when finished, rinse with warm water.
- Repeat the treatment four or five times a day or leave it on overnight.
- The most studied varieties are medicinal ones, such as Manuka honey, but you can also use an organic one to get similar results.
Step 3. Make a marigold oil blend
Dilute three or four drops in a carrier oil, such as almond, castor, olive or mineral oil and apply it to the scabs using a cotton swab or cotton swab. repeat four or five times every day.
- Calendula oil has wound healing properties.
- Alternatively, you can also find a wide selection of this oil in cream, lotion or ointment on the market.
Step 4. Apply apple cider vinegar
Mix 5 ml with 50 ml of water; take a cotton ball and dab the solution on skin imperfections, leaving it to act for 20 minutes. When finished, rinse it off gently.
