The German language is spoken by millions of people around the world. If you meet one of these people it will be good to know a few simple phrases to communicate. Even if you're just curious, starting to learn German shouldn't be too stressful. Learning to count to 10 in German is as easy as eins, zwei, drei!
Steps
Step 1. Uno-eins (like the word 'ai' with 'nz' at the end])
Step 2. Two- zwei (zuai)
Step 3. Tre-drei (drai, but with a guttural 'r' as in French)
Step 4. Quattro- vier (fiar)
Step 5. Cinque-fünf (funf, the 'ü' is pronounced normally but is more stressed and elongated. If you can't, go to 'Google Translate' and select German (german), copy and paste the 'ü' and click on the pronunciation sound to listen to it)
Step 6. Six-sechs (zecs)
Step 7. Seven- sieben (ziben)
Step 8. Otto- acht (ahkt, 'ch' is pronounced like the 'j' of the Spanish name 'Juan')
Step 9. Nove- neun (noin)
Step 10. Dieci- zehn (tsen)
Advice
- Try to memorize the first five numbers and then the next five.
- Numbers in German are not written in capital letters, except they are used as nouns, for example "The three …", "Die Drei …"
- If you want to learn how to count beyond the number ten in German, consider the help of a tutor or a computer training program.
