Even playing the X and Y version of the Pokemon video game you can catch the famous Legendary Birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, also known as the Winged Mirages, which you find in the Red, Blue and Yellow versions of the game. They can be encountered in the Kalos region, but the method of capture is different than in previous versions of the game. To find out how to catch them, follow the steps in this tutorial.
Steps
Step 1. Choose your starter Pokemon based on the corresponding Legendary Bird you wish to face
If you want to catch Articuno you will have to choose Chespin as your starting Pokemon, if you want to try to catch Zapdos you will have to choose Fennekin, finally choose Froakie if you want to catch Moltres.
Step 2. Defeat the Elite Four
The Legendary Birds will hover over the Kalos region only after you become champion by defeating the Elite Four.
Step 3. You will only be able to face the legendary bird you have decided to capture after spotting it about 11 times
At each sighting, the Legendary Pokemon will run away automatically, without giving you a chance to fight. After each escape, you will need to switch areas to be able to spot him again. After the first sighting, you can check the movement of the legendary Pokemon by consulting your Pokedex.

Step 4. Talk to the legendary bird to start the fight
Advice
- Before the fight, save your game progress. Should you accidentally cause the Legendary Bird to faint or run out of your Pokeballs, you can reload the game and try again.
- While chasing the legendary bird around the Kalos region, be sure to use a Pokemon with a level between 60 and 69 that has the Repellent tool. This tool ensures that you don't encounter any other Pokemon other than the legendary bird you are looking for.
- Use Pokemon that know the moves that inflict an alteration of the state, such as Sleep and Paralysis. This will make it much easier to catch the legendary bird.
- Get a supply of Ultra Balls, Dark Balls and Timer Balls. The Dark Balls are very useful because they are very effective on Pokemon that are inside the caves, while the Timer Balls will become very useful if the fight lasts over time.
- Legendary Birds are at level 70, so make sure you have Pokemon that reach at least this level.
