Have you reached Amaranth City and encountered the three Legendary Pokémon in the Scorched Tower, but now you see them wandering all over the map? This article explains how to catch the three legendary dogs in Pokémon SoulSilver and HeartGold. You'll need a Blocked Snorlax or a Bad Look Gengar in the first squad position to prevent the legendaries from escaping.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Capturing Entei
Step 1. Go to Goldenrod City and purchase 20 Ultra Balls and 20 Dark Balls
It is recommended that you catch the three Legendaries at night, as this will allow you to use both of these Poké Balls.
Dark balls have a catch bonus from 18:00 to 03:59
Step 2. Reach Entei's position (walking or running, but not flying
). After meeting them in the Burnt tower, you will see Entei and Raikou wandering around the map, so you will be able to find them easily. You will likely have to go to a border area between a city and a path (choose the city you prefer, such as Amaranth City, Violet City, and Goldenrod City), then continually enter and exit the city, checking the map. Eventually, Entei will appear next to you on the map and you can run to its location.
- Walk in the tall grass to meet Entei.
- You can also use a Repellent to avoid encountering other Pokémon while looking for Entei in the grass.
Step 3. Fight against Entei
The Legendary Pokémon is level 40 and knows the Roar, Fire Spin, Stomp, and Flamethrower moves, so make sure you have a team that can absorb its hits. Entei will flee as soon as it gets the chance.
Step 4. Use Snorlax's Block attack to make sure Entei can't escape
Since the legendary dog immediately tries to escape from the fight, you must prevent it from happening.
You can also use Bad Look to prevent Entei from escaping
Step 5. Start throwing Dark and Ultra balls at Entei when his HP reaches the red or orange zone
It can take a lot of orbs to catch it.
You can use Snorlax's Crunch move to weaken Entei. Assign to Snorlax the Leftovers so that it regains HP after each attack.
Step 6. Throw Poké Balls until Entei is captured or escapes
When you bring him low, he will use Roar to escape.
If he escapes, that's not a problem; go heal your Pokémon at the nearest Center, then go back to where you last encountered Entei. You'll have to look for him again, but he'll have the same health as your last fight
Method 2 of 3: Capturing Raikou
Step 1. Go to Goldenrod City and purchase 20 Ultra Balls and 20 Dark Balls
It is recommended that you catch the three Legendaries at night, as this will allow you to use both of these Poké Balls.
- Dark balls have a catch bonus from 18:00 to 03:59.
- The procedure for capturing Raikou is identical to that for Entei.
Step 2. Reach Raikou's position (walk or run, but don't fly
). Once you meet in the Burnt Tower, you will see Entei and Raikou wandering the map, so you can find them easily.
- You will probably have to go to a border area between a city and a path (choose the city you prefer, such as Amaranth City, Violet City and Goldenrod City), then continuously enter and exit the city, checking the map. Each time you change areas, you will see that Raikou will move to a different area. Repeat this until Raikou appears next to you and then walk to him.
- Walk in the tall grass to meet Raikou.
- You can also use a Repellent to avoid encountering other Pokémon while searching for Raikou.
Step 3. Fight against Raikou
The Legendary Pokémon is level 40 and knows the Roar, Quick Attack, Spark, and Reflection moves, so make sure your first Pokémon can take its hits. Raikou will escape as soon as he gets the chance.
Step 4. Use Snorlax's Block attack to make sure Raikou can't escape
Since the legendary dog tries to escape right away, you need to prevent that from happening.
You can also use Bad Look to stop Raikou from escaping
Step 5. Start throwing Dark Ball and Ultra Ball at Raikou when his HP reaches the red or orange zone
It can take a lot of throws to catch it.
You can use Snorlax's Crunch move to weaken Raikou. Make sure you assign them Leftovers to your Pokémon, so that it regains some of its health after each attack.
Step 6. Throw your Poké Balls until you catch Raikou or until he escapes
When you take him to low health, he will use Roar and run away.
If he escapes, that's not a problem; go heal your Pokémon at the nearest Center, then go back to where you last encountered Raikou. You'll have to look for him again, but he'll have the same health as your last fight
Method 3 of 3: Capturing Suicune
Step 1. Go to the house north of Fiorlisopoli
Suicune is to the right of the house north of this island, but it will vanish as you get closer.
Suicune cannot be randomly caught like Raikou or Entei. You have to go to some places and meet him before you can catch him. Plus, there's no need to stop him from escaping, so you don't need Snorlax or Gengar
Step 2. Go to Route 42, outside of Mount Scodella
You should be able to use Surf to proceed west into the water and find a tree you can cut down. You will reach a small clearing with three berry trees in the center. You will also see Suicune, who will escape when you get close.
Step 3. Go to Aranciopoli
You will see Suicune on the dock leading to SS Water, but it will disappear when you get close.
Step 4. Go to Route 14 on Kanto
Go to the part closest to Route 13.
Step 5. Go to Heavenly City
You will find Suicune next to Bill's house on Route 25 once Misty is defeated when she returns to her gym.
Step 6. Fight against Suicune
The Legendary Pokémon is level 40 and knows the Rain Dance, Gust, Dawn Beam, and Mist moves, so make sure your first Pokémon can take its hits.
Step 7. Throw Dark Balls and Ultra Balls until you catch Suicune
Since it's a Water-type Pokémon, battle it with a Grass, Water, or Dragon-type Pokémon.
- Use False Swipe to bring Suicune to 1 HP, so you don't accidentally defeat him.
- If you defeat Suicune, that's not a problem; go heal your Pokémon at the nearest Center, then return to the Burned Tower.
Advice
- Make sure you have a Pokémon with Block and Bad Look to be able to catch Entei and Raikou.
- Put a Pokémon with False Swipe on your team to avoid accidentally defeating the Legendary Pokémon.
- Try to catch Entei and Raikou at night, so you can use the Dark Balls. Even the Timer balls are very suitable for these clashes, as well as for all battles against legendary Pokémon, because the possibility of capture increases with the passing of turns.
- A good strategy for catching Legendary Pokémon is to put them to sleep or paralyze them. Always avoid burning or poisoning them, as you may defeat them before catching them.
- Defeating the legendary trio is annoying, but it's not an unsolvable problem. Suicune will reappear for a rematch in the Burned Tower, while Entei and Raikou will resume wandering the world. However, for this to happen, you must defeat the Elite Four and the Champion again, so try to avoid it.
- Don't use your Master Ball! You don't need a lot of patience.
Warnings
- Do not fly around when trying to capture Entei or Raikou, as they will change position.
- Be careful when meeting Entei and Raikou. Both of these legendary dogs can use Roar and run away from battle that way.
