This article shows how to uninstall Deep Freeze software from a Windows system or a Mac. In order to do this, you must first deactivate the program by entering its password and configure it so that it does not intervene during computer startup. If you no longer remember the Deep Freeze administration password, in order to remove it, you will need to back up all files and personal data on your system and format your computer's hard drive.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows systems
Step 1. Locate the Deep Freeze program icon
It features a stylized polar bear and should be visible in the lower right corner of the desktop. In some cases you will first need to select the "Show hidden icons" icon indicated by the following symbol ^ to view the complete list of all programs running in the background.
Step 2. Open the Deep Freeze user interface
Double click on the icon while holding down the ⇧ Shift key on your keyboard. The program login screen will appear.
Alternatively you can select the Deep Freeze icon with the right mouse button
Step 3. Enter the Deep Freeze administration password and press the Log in button
If you do not remember the login password, the only solution is to back up all files and personal data on the system and proceed to format the hard disk of the computer and then reinstall the Windows operating system
Step 4. Access the Boot Control tab
It is located in the upper left of the program window.
Step 5. Select the "Boot Thawed" checkbox
It is located in the center of the program window. This way you can be sure that Deep Freeze will be disabled and will not intervene during the boot phase of the computer.
Step 6. Press the Apply and Reboot button
It is located in the lower right corner of the program window. The computer will restart normally.
- Before the system actually reboots, you may need to press the buttons in succession OK And Yup when required.
- Restarting your computer following this procedure will take several minutes. During this time, do not perform other operations and let the machine work in total autonomy.
Step 7. Wait about half an hour
When you log back into the Windows desktop you will notice that the computer will be noticeably slow in performing normal operations and some features will not be available for several minutes (for example, accessing the menu Start). It will take about half an hour for the system to complete the boot process.
Step 8. Locate the Deep Freeze installation file
In order to uninstall the software you must use the EXE file with which you installed it on your system.
- There is no uninstall program for Deep Freeze, however you can start the uninstall procedure using the same program with which it was installed on your system. If you no longer have this file, you can download it directly from the official Deep Freeze website.
- The executable file of the standard version of Deep Freeze 5 is DF5Std.exe.
- Instead the installation file of the standard version of Deep Freeze 6 is DF6Std.exe.
Step 9. Run the installation file
Double-click its icon, choose the option Uninstall located in the wizard window, then follow the instructions that will appear on the screen. At the end of the uninstallation procedure the computer will restart and Deep Freeze will be completely removed from the system.

Method 2 of 2: Mac
Step 1. Launch Deep Freeze
Locate its icon and select it with the mouse. It features a stylized polar bear. A selection menu will appear.
Alternatively you can start the program by pressing the key combination Ctrl + ⌥ Option + ⇧ Shift + F6
Step 2. Access the Login drop-down menu
The text field for entering the program administration password will be displayed.
Step 3. Enter the Deep Freeze admin password and press the Enter key
If you do not remember the login password, the only solution is to back up all files and personal data on the system and proceed to format the hard drive of the computer and then reinstall the macOS operating system
Step 4. Access the Boot Control tab
It is located in the upper left of the program window.
Step 5. Select the "Boot Thawed" checkbox
It is located in the center of the program window. This way you can be sure that Deep Freeze will be disabled and will not intervene during the Mac startup phase.
Step 6. Press the Apply button
It is located in the lower right corner of the program window.
Step 7. Restart your Mac
Access the menu Apple clicking the icon
choose the option Restart … and press the button Restart when required. The computer will begin the reboot procedure.
Step 8. Wait about half an hour

Step 9. Log back into the Deep Freeze user interface
Click the relevant icon, access the menu Login and enter the program administration password.
Step 10. Go to the Uninstall tab
It is located in the upper right part of the window.
Step 11. If available, select the "Delete Existing Thawspace (s)" check button
It should be visible in the center of the card Uninstall.
Step 12. Press the Uninstall button
It is located at the bottom of the program window.
Step 13. At this point, follow the instructions that will appear on the screen
At the end of the uninstallation procedure the Mac will restart and Deep Freeze will be completely removed from the system.
