Many think that keeping jewels means "just" putting them away. In fact, there are several original ways to do this, for example, by showing off some pieces and your personality at the same time while still keeping them in a safe place. The best method depends on your personal preferences, the space available and the type of jewelry. Below, you'll find some ways you can get inspired.
Steps
Step 1. Create or buy a "tree" jewelry box
If you buy it, make sure it is of good quality and that it fits the type of accessories you have. If, on the other hand, you want to do it yourself, customize it and decorate it with care.
Step 2. Use a picture frame, pin board and thumbtacks
This method is very simple and does not take up too much space. Finding the accessory you are looking for will be easy and moreover, if you arrange the jewels carefully, you can also decorate your room. To make a cork jewelry board:
-
Buy a photo frame that is the right size for the whiteboard and remove the glass. Many people use this type of jewelry box to hang necklaces and bracelets, so choose a frame that's long enough.
-
Buy a pinboard that is exactly the same size or wider than the frame. If it is wider, just cut the extra pieces with a utility knife.
-
Cover the chalkboard with decorative paper that is exactly the same size or wider than the same. Cut the right size, then attach it with double-sided tape for a neater result (be careful not to leave creases).
-
Now, put the board in the frame to make sure the dimensions are right; if not, cut another small piece (it is always better to cut too little than too much).
-
With a hot glue gun, apply glue to the edges of the frame where you will attach the chalkboard. Carefully place the blackboard on the frame with the glue still hot and press gently to make it glue. The board is ready.
-
To use it, attach the thumbtacks to the board, then use them to hang the jewelry. To make the pins more beautiful, glue a button or beads on them.
Step 3. Use a photo frame
A much simpler variant of the previous option is to hang the frame on the wall, then attach the drawing pins directly inside it by arranging the jewels on the pins.
Step 4. Hang the earrings on the rim of a martini glass or porcelain bowl
Both are very classy and simple to use (just hang the earrings on the edge). Alternatively, use cups, glasses, or any object that will go well with the rest of the furniture.
Step 5. Store the earrings in drawer organizers
They are very simple to use and you can buy them in all sizes at home improvement stores.
Step 6. Use a sewing box
Practical and roomy, the sewing box is also perfect for storing jewelry for a move. Beware of fragile objects though, protect them by lining each section with felt or other soft fabrics.
Step 7. Store the smaller pieces of jewelry in a jewelry box
Available in different shapes and colors, jewelry boxes usually also include a hand mirror. You can purchase one at home improvement stores, stationery stores, and online. If you like vintage, look for an antique-style jewelry box to match the decor.
Step 8. Place the jewelry on a mannequin
If you don't mind having a mannequin in the house, you can put your favorite vintage accessories and clothes on the mannequin with the jewelry draped around the dress. You can find mannequins of different types, although the best models for your purpose are the half-length and head models, or the miniature ones with the whole body. Buy them online or at antique stores.
Step 9. Use a wire tray to hang the earrings on
To use it, lean it against the wall, or, for a touch of class, try placing it on a miniature easel. Just watch out for traces of damp that could cause the metal to rust; to prevent the problem, paint it with protective paint and check it regularly.
Step 10. Hang the jewelry on a tie rack
You can use the one you put in the closet or the standard wall model. The tie rack is ideal for long jewels that need a lot of space, such as pearl necklaces. Just be careful not to place it near fabrics that could get caught in the jewel!
Step 11. Use a cup holder
This economic object is ideal for arranging jewels in an orderly manner. Just make sure it's in a stable position.
Step 12. Use items you have around the house that you no longer need
Jewelery can be stored without specific rules (except some types of gems), so feel free to use any item as a jewelery box. Just remember to use a soft lining for fragile items and in some cases a matte cover to prevent damage from light. All jewelry should be stored away from sources of heat and humidity, regardless of their value.
Step 13. Finally, get a pitted dirt bin
The holes are perfect for organizing your earrings and if you want to spin it, put it on a rotating table.
