A scented body oil does not necessarily have to come from a shop or boutique. You can prepare an oil yourself and customize its blend and fragrance. You can use decorative bottles and adorn them with bows: it would be a very original gift idea. Gardening enthusiasts could take advantage of herbs and flowers, and use the oil for themselves or as a gift for a loved one.
Steps
Step 1. Select the bottles to put the oil in, and calculate how much oil you will need to fill all the bottles
-
Glass bottles with corks are ideal for gifts. Some are available in decorative forms. If the oil is for personal use, you may want to purchase plastic bottles from beauty shops or craft stores.
Step 2. Pour a clear, nourishing base oil into the bottles
Fill them 3/4 of the way, leaving some space from the edge.
-
The recommended base oils are almond oil, avocado oil, white sesame and sunflower oil. These oils are easily absorbed by the skin and have a light color so they will not stain your clothes; they are also almost odorless, which allows you to add a fragrance to your liking.
Step 3. Add a few drops of essential oil to the base oil for fragrance and aromatherapy
- Personalize your body oil using essential oils. If you prefer a strong fragrance, add more essential oil. If you like lighter fragrances, just add a few drops. You can combine different essential oils and create a more complex fragrance. For example, rose and orange essential oils are perfect together, as are lavender and lemon essential oils.
- Body oil can have therapeutic qualities if added to essential oils. For example, ginger oil is known for its stimulating properties, while eucaluptus oil is known for its healing properties.
Step 4. You can add dried flowers and herbs inside the bottles
Over time they will give color and a slight fragrance to the oil.
- You can choose them based on the scent or according to the therapeutic properties they possess. They also add an extra aesthetic touch to the packaging, as they are visible through the clear bottles. Rose petals, mint leaves and rosemary are usually added.
- You can choose not to use dried herbs and flowers, or to use them in place of essential oils.
