Artificial tan that has turned too orange a hue, looks unnatural, or has uneven streaks, defeats the very purpose of using self-tanner, can undermine self-esteem and ruin the look. Fortunately, there are several remedies to eliminate it by using one or more products commonly found at home.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: with baby oil
Step 1. Put on the clothes you typically use for cleaning, moving, or using harsh chemicals
This way, you prevent the oil from staining a dress you care about.
Step 2. Spread a layer of baby oil on the area of skin where you want to get rid of the tan
This substance softens the surface layer of dead cells that has absorbed the pigments.
Step 3. Rub and massage the skin thoroughly
By doing this, you let the oil penetrate deep into the pores.
Step 4. Wait for it to work for 30-40 minutes
This is the time it takes for the oil to soften the dead cells.
Avoid direct contact with furniture or clothing during this phase, as the oil irreparably damages most fabrics
Step 5. Take a warm bath
The water softens the skin and facilitates the removal of the superficial layer of epidermis.
Step 6. Use an exfoliating mitt or sponge to "scrub away" the artificial tan
The color should fade relatively easily after treatment.
Method 2 of 5: with Sodium Bicarbonate
Step 1. Put a small amount of baking soda in a bowl
The exact dose depends on the size of the surface you have to "clean"; for example, if you have to remove the self-tanner from the palms of your hands, 15-30 g of baking soda is enough.
Step 2. Add enough water to make a thick paste
Step 3. Apply the mixture liberally on the part of the epidermis you want to treat
Step 4. Let the baking soda sit for 20-30 minutes
The natural properties of this substance "absorb" the artificial tan from the skin.
Step 5. Use an exfoliating sponge or glove to get rid of the slurry and dead skin cells
When finished, the color should have faded or visibly faded.
Method 3 of 5: with Lemon Juice
Step 1. Cut a lemon into several wedges
This citrus fruit contains natural acids that have a whitening action and remove dark spots from the skin, including artificial tan.
Step 2. Rub the lemon slices on the areas you intend to treat
This method is the most effective for removing small spots.
Step 3. Let the juice dry completely on the skin
This should take 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 4. Use warm water and an exfoliating sponge or glove to "scrub off" the artificial tan
When finished, the color should no longer be visible.
Method 4 of 5: with a Specific Product
Step 1. Purchase a commercial product to eliminate artificial suntan
You can find it at the pharmacy on the sunscreen and tanning shelf.
Step 2. Apply it to the skin following the instructions on the label
Step 3. Let it work on the skin for the time indicated by the manufacturer
Most of these substances take several hours to remove the artificial tan.
Step 4. Always discard the product in accordance with the instructions for use
When finished, the skin should no longer be tanned.
Method 5 of 5: with Steam
Step 1. Go to the Turkish bath in your gym or SPA
The steam effectively dilates the pores, allowing you to exfoliate the skin and remove the tan.
Step 2. Sit in the steam room for at least half an hour
This allows the steam to fully penetrate the epidermis and open the pores.
Step 3. Gently wipe the area you want to treat with a soft cloth
This operation moves and removes the superficial layer of dead pigmented cells from the self-tanner.
