A paper knife can be a perfect addition to your collection of paper items. This knife is not only simple to make, but it is also safe and will not hurt anyone - at most you could cut yourself with the paper itself. Once you've made your paper knife, you may decide to make a paper sword or other paper weapon. If you want to know how to make a paper knife, follow the steps below.
Steps
Step 1. Get an 21.5cm by 28cm sheet of printer paper
Plain printer paper will do just fine. The notebook paper is too thin to make this item.
Step 2. Fold the top right corner over the left edge of the sheet
Proceed so that the top of the paper matches the left margin. The folded part will form a triangle, with a rectangular part at the bottom. Make sure the edges are well overlapped, and run a finger along the crease you just created.
Step 3. Cut out the rectangular section from the sheet
Use a pair of scissors to cut the rectangular part left at the bottom of the paper. Then unfold the triangle, thus remaining with a square piece of paper. You will use this sheet to make your knife blade.
Step 4. Fold the paper back on itself at least 3-4 times
This will create a blade that is at least 2.5 - 5cm wide. Now the sheet should look like a wand.
Step 5. Cut one edge of the paper at an angle
Cut one edge of the paper at an angle to make it look like a sharp kitchen knife.
Step 6. Secure the blade
Using a stapler, fix the blade in the center and at the ends. You could also cover the staples with white-out to hide them better.
Step 7. Handle the remaining paper
The handle should be approximately 2.5 cm longer than the oblique part of the blade. Measure and cut the excess paper from Step 3 to the desired length, and fold it to the width you prefer for your handle.
Step 8. Assemble the handle and blade
Cross the handle over the blade, about 5 cm from the flat end of the blade. Then, with a stapler, fix them together at the intersection point.
Step 9. Enjoy your paper knife
You can paint your knife silver, decorate it, or create other knives to keep him company.
Advice
- Using duct tape instead of metal staples would make your knife look more precise, but probably also less resistant.
- Folding the paper back on itself several times will make it more rigid. A stiffer and sturdier knife will last longer.
