The rose petal beads allow you to give off the magnificent essence of roses when you wear them. For example, if you make a beaded necklace and wear it, the warmth of your skin will release the scent of roses. This article will teach you two methods of making rose beads: one with petals and the other with rose essential oil.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Simple Beads with Rose Petals
Step 1. Get some red rose petals
Step 2. Arrange them on a rusty baking sheet and place in the sun for about a day to dry
Alternatively, if you know how to use an oven or microwave, dry them with these appliances.
Step 3. Wait for the petals to shrink before proceeding, but don't let them dry out completely
To style them you will need to have some moisture left on the top.
Step 4. Blend the petals in a blender until you get a consistency suitable for making beads
Practice, even with your hands. If you see that the petal compound easily molds into a bead shape, it's ready to craft.
Step 5. With your hands, take some of the mixture and roll it to form beads
Do this firmly to make the balls stick together well. Remember to take into account the fact that the petals will shrink by about half. Now make your own beads.
Step 6. Make a hole in the center of each bead
To do this you can use a pin, a thin skewer or a piece of metal cable. Dry the beads well so that the hole keeps the shape you want.
Step 7. Let the beads dry thoroughly
Put them in a warm, dry and well-ventilated place.
Step 8. Create the necklace
Take the dry beads and insert them into a cord of the size you want. If you want to create something different, add a gold or silver one for every 2-3 rose beads.
Step 9. Add a clasp or hook
Step 10. Keep it well
The necklace will keep in good condition for many years. The aroma is also preserved, and it can be made more intense by keeping the necklace inside a small wooden box closed well.
Method 2 of 2: Spiced Rose Beads
This is a variation proposed by Elizabeth Walker in her book Making Things with Herbs. Use the materials listed below. This method does not involve the use of petals but rose oil.
Step 1. Put all the ingredients in a bowl
Step 2. Mix well until you get an almost solid batter
Step 3. Roll up the dough and shape into small beads
Let them dry in the sun on a baking sheet. Do not let them dry completely, but make sure they are solid enough to be molded.
Step 4. With a hot needle, pierce each bead
Dry the beads well with the hole.
Step 5. Form a necklace
Follow the instructions above for the next steps.
Advice
- Rose beads, if cared for well, last up to 50 years!
- You can combine petals of different colors if you want, but make sure they have an intense scent.
- Try making a bracelet or anklet to match the necklace.
