Roses are a very nice decoration for cakes and are not that difficult to make. This guide will take you into the world of icing decorations and will show you how to make a simple rose with your own hands.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Making the Icing
Step 1. Fill the piping bag with your colored icing
Insert the suitable spout before filling.
- If you don't have royal icing, read the article on how to make it.
- While working with the sac-à-poche, it is best to hold the bag in your dominant hand, in order to better control the movement.
Part 2 of 3: Creating the Rose
Step 1. Prepare the support
Squeeze a small amount of icing onto the base and cover it with a small square of wax paper so that the icing acts as a glue.
Step 2. Make the center of the rose
Place the spout on the base, with the widest part facing down. Press while moving in a circular direction to create a cone. You need to synchronize your speed well with the flow rate of the icing, in order to create a precise shape.
Step 3. Create the first layer of petals around the cone
Each petal must be a little higher than the center and must cover a third of the perimeter: you will have three petals in total.
Step 4. Create the second layer of petals
This layer will have five petals. Again, make the petals stand a little higher than the previous layer, with the top angled outward.
Step 5. Create the last layer of petals
It must contain seven evenly distributed petals. If you want a bigger rose, add more outer layers.
Part 3 of 3: Using Rose Glaze
Step 1. Carefully remove the rose from the wax paper
Place it on parchment paper on a flat surface. Let it dry for 24 hours.
Step 2. Finished
Now you can use it to decorate your cake or any other dessert.
Advice
- The icing must be colored at first, before pouring it into the piping bag.
- Always try to create taller petals as you go outward and tilt the taller ends outward.
- There are other ways to make icing roses too; this is the simplest one, which even the less experienced can try successfully.
Warnings
- Do not make roses larger than the base, or they will slip off the greaseproof paper.
- Be careful not to get hurt with the metal base.
