Slime containing pieces of sponge is a type of transparent or colored slime that is mixed with rubber cubes with a firm consistency. This results in a creaky, mushy compound that is fun to play with. As if that weren't enough, it's simple to make and requires ingredients you may already have. Prepare a basic slime, then dye and dice a magic gum. Finally, mix everything together so you can easily make a spongy slime at home.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Making a Transparent or Colored Slime
Step 1. Mix the clear vinyl glue, water, and baking soda in a large bowl
Make sure you use a bowl with a capacity of at least 3 cups (about 720ml). Pour in 1 cup (240 ml) of clear vinyl glue, 1 cup (240 ml) of warm water and 1 teaspoon (1 g) of baking soda. Stir to mix the ingredients.
You can use a fork or spoon to mix the liquid. Make sure there are no lumps of baking soda left at the end of the procedure
Step 2. Add a few drops of food coloring if desired
You can leave the slime transparent or add a few drops of a dye of your choice to dye it. Stir to blend the dye with the glue, water, and baking soda. Try adding only 2 or 3 drops of the product to get a light colored slime, or use 7 or 8 to get a darker and more intense color.
- For example, you could add 2 drops of green food coloring to make a light green transparent slime, or use 8 to make a dark green slime that is only slightly transparent.
- Make sure you take into consideration the color you want to use to dye the cubes. Choose colors that complement each other or that work well with each other. For example, you could make a yellow slime with yellow cubes or a pink slime with purple cubes.
Step 3. Add 1 tablespoon (15ml) of contact lens solution
Contact lens solutions contain borax, which activates the other ingredients and turns them into slime. Add the solution and then mix the ingredients. Keep mixing them until the slime has begun to come off the sides of the bowl.
advise: do not exceed the recommended dose of solution, otherwise the slime could become too gummy. You can always add a little more if needed, but there is no remedy if you use too much.
Step 4. Knead to finish making the slime
Once the mixture has started to take shape, continue to mix it with your hands. Grab it and knead it until you get the consistency you find satisfactory.
If the slime feels slightly sticky to the touch, add half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) of contact lens solution and knead it. This will help you reduce its viscosity
Part 2 of 3: Cutting and Dyeing the Cubes
Step 1. Cut a magic eraser into cubes about 3cm or smaller
Magic eraser is a particular type of sponge with a rigid and creaky consistency. It is precisely the sponge cubes that give that classic creaky and soggy texture that characterizes this type of slime. Use a sharp pair of scissors or a sharp, non-serrated knife to cut the gum into cubes.
- If you use a knife to cut rubber, do the procedure on a cutting board instead of a kitchen counter or plate.
- If you want, you can try using a regular sponge, but the final result will be different, as traditional sponges do not have the same compact and creaky texture that characterizes magic rubbers.
Warning: be careful when cutting the sponge into cubes! Ask someone to help you with this part if needed.
Step 2. Mix a few drops of food coloring with 2 cups (about 480ml) of warm water
After cutting the cubes, pour the water into a large bowl and add 3 to 4 drops of food coloring. Use a bowl with a capacity of at least 3 cups (720 ml) of liquid to make sure there is enough space for the cubes.
You can use any color you want to dye the cubes! For example, try dyeing them with a blue food coloring. You can also mix 2 different colors, such as 2 drops of red and 2 drops of yellow to make orange cubes
Step 3. Place the cubes in the dye and mix them to coat them
Use a spoon to mix the cubes with the dye and make sure they are completely submerged. If necessary, add half a cup (120 ml) of water to raise the liquid level, then mix the cubes with the dye.
You can also add 1-2 drops of dye. Just avoid pouring it directly on the cubes, otherwise you run the risk that some will take on a different color than the rest
Step 4. Leave the cubes to soak for at least 30 minutes
It will take about 30 minutes to dye the cubes well, but you can let them soak longer if you want. By letting the dye work for longer, the color will set better. You can also leave the cubes to soak overnight if you wish.
If you want to dye the cubes only lightly, remove them from the dye a little earlier, after about 15 minutes
Part 3 of 3: Dry the Cubes and Finish Making the Slime
Step 1. Remove excess water from the cubes
After leaving them in the tint for as long as you want, pour them into a colander by performing the procedure on a sink. Let them drain for a few minutes in the sink to remove excess liquid. Gently shake the colander to remove as much liquid as possible from the cubes.
Try not to shake the colander too much, otherwise the cubes may fall out
Step 2. Squeeze the cubes to remove excess water and let them dry for 1 hour
Take a handful of cubes and squeeze them on the sink to better remove excess water. After wringing them out, place them on a dry paper towel. Repeat the procedure with all the cubes. Let them rest and dry for 1 hour.
After an hour, the cubes should be dry to the touch
advise: You may want to wear a pair of gloves to squeeze the cubes, otherwise you will end up staining your hands.
Step 3. Knead the cubes with the slime
Once the slime is ready and the cubes are dry, pour them into the mixing bowl and knead them. Squeeze and fold the slime with your hands to evenly distribute the cubes.
