If you have a fondness for all the sticky and filthy stuff, you can avoid spending a lot of money to buy slime in-store and make it at home, using a few simple ingredients that you most likely already have available. The basic ingredient in slime is generally borax, but you can also use liquid sizing.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Slime Made with Glue and Liquid Dressing
Step 1. Pour 120ml of glitter liquid glue into a small bowl
If you don't have it, you can use clear glue and add a small teaspoon of glitter powder instead of buying it. If you want, you can also color it by adding a few drops of tempera or liquid or gel food coloring.
In the absence of anything else you can also use white glue. You can add a teaspoon of glitter powder and, if you want the slime to be colored, even a few drops of gouache or liquid or gel food coloring
Step 2. Also add 120ml of water if you like runny slime
If, on the other hand, you prefer it denser and more elastic, do not add anything else for now.
Step 3. Combine the ingredients by mixing them with a spoon
Keep stirring until you get a perfectly even blend. Don't be in a hurry to add liquid makeup. It is important that all the basic ingredients are fully blended before continuing. If you pour the dressing into the bowl ahead of time, your slime will be loose and poorly made.
Step 4. Add liquid dressing, then mix to distribute it evenly in the mixture
Start with just 120 ml of primer; after having poured it into the bowl, mix first with a spoon and then with your hands. At some point the slime will acquire a compact consistency and the shape of a ball, while some of the liquid sizing will remain at the bottom of the boule. At that moment you can remove the slime from the container and discard the excess size.
If you want to get an even more elastic consistency, add more liquid starch and resume working the mixture with your hands
Step 5. Play with the slime and, when done, close it in an airtight container
Slime is a fun pastime for children of all ages. It is also perfect to use for sensory activities aimed at the little ones. After playing with it, remember to store it in an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place.
Method 2 of 2: Slime Made with Glue and Borax
Step 1. Dissolve one teaspoon of borax in 240ml of water
When it has completely dissolved, set the mixture aside. For this method it would be better to use glitter glue, but if you don't have any, you can use regular white vinyl glue. In this case, however, use only half a teaspoon of borax and 60 ml of water.
Step 2. Mix 1 tablespoon (15ml) of water with 120ml of glitter glue
Thanks to this technique, the slime will have a more slimy and sticky consistency. If you haven't found glitter glue, you can make it yourself by adding a meager teaspoon of glitter powder to the clear glue. If you wish, you can also color it by adding a few drops of tempera or liquid or gel food coloring.
In the absence of anything else you can also use white glue. Add a teaspoon of glitter powder and, if you want the slime to be colored, also a few drops of gouache or liquid or gel food coloring. However, keep in mind that in this case the color of the slime will be very pale
Step 3. Pour the borax mixture into the glue mixture, then mix to combine all the ingredients
At some point the slime will acquire a firm consistency. At that moment you can start kneading and squeezing it with your hands.
Step 4. Take the slime out of the boule and finish working it
After kneading it for some time with your hands, it will take the shape of a ball. At that point you will notice that some of the liquid will have remained at the bottom of the bowl. At that moment, you will need to take the slime out of the bowl and continue kneading it elsewhere.
- Don't let the slime sit in the borax mixture for too long, or it will become excessively hard.
- If it seems too liquid, put it back in the borax bottle and wait for it to harden again.
Step 5. Play with the slime and, when done, close it in an airtight container
Its sticky and repulsive texture makes it a fun pastime for kids of all ages. It is also perfect to use for sensory activities aimed at the little ones. After playing with it, remember to store it in an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place.
Advice
- The ideal is to use glitter powder instead of the classic glitter which are thicker. You can buy them online, in DIY stores or in perfumery.
- Thanks to the glitter the slime will be super sparkling. If you want you can also add larger glitter in various shapes, for example heart or star.
- If you want, you can color the glue (and therefore the slime) by adding a few drops of tempera or liquid or gel food coloring. This method also works with white glue, but you will get a rather pale shade.
- If the slime is too sticky, add more liquid starch or a little more of the water-borax mixture.
- If the slime is too liquid, add more glue.
- Also add a few drops of essential oil to make the slime fragrant as well as sparkling.
- Divide the slime into lots of small jars and give it to friends at the end of your party.
- The glue is generally sold in packs of 120ml.
- Borax can be purchased at pharmacies, stores that sell home care products, or online. Liquid make-up can also be easily found in supermarkets or household cleaning products stores.
- Let your kids help you make slime.

- Be careful not to get the slime on furniture or fabrics.
- This is a fun project for children, but if they are very young it is important that they are constantly followed by an adult.
