Making slime is a fun and popular activity. Most recipes call for liquid glue, but you can still make it with that stick. Most basic recipes also require the use of water and a microwave. In case you don't have this appliance, you can still try other variations.

Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using Water
Step 1. Cut a stick of glue and place it in a bowl
Unscrew the tube of a glue stick to release the stick from the container. Cut it into small pieces and put it in a bowl. It is not necessary that the pieces have particular dimensions. This procedure simply serves to speed up the melting of the glue at a later time.
This bowl should be placed in the microwave, so make sure it fits
Step 2. Cover the glue pieces with a small amount of water
It is not necessary to calculate an exact amount, as its main function is to prevent the glue from drying out in the next step. Remember that you can always add more later.
For now, don't worry about letting the glue dissolve in the water
Step 3. Heat the glue in the microwave for about 50 seconds
If you have a powerful oven, reduce the time to about 35 seconds instead. You have to heat it up long enough for it to melt.
- If the glue hasn't melted completely, give it a first stir. Sometimes, that's all it takes to make it stop melting.
- If this doesn't help melt it further, put it back in the microwave at 10-15 second intervals until the desired result is achieved. Make sure you mix it after each interval!
Step 4. Add 1-3 drops of food coloring, then mix the mixture
At the beginning, give the glue a quick stir, in order to obtain a homogeneous consistency. Then add a few drops of food coloring and mix again until you get a uniform color and consistency.
By adding more food coloring, the color of the slime will progressively darken. Start with 1-3 drops, then incorporate more as needed. Skip this step if you want to get a white slime
Step 5. Freeze the slime for 10 to 15 minutes and, as if by magic, it will transform
During freezing the consistency will change from liquid to semi-solid. Just put the bowl in the freezer and set the timer for 10-15 minutes.
If the bowl is glass, make sure it fits in the freezer. Wait for it to come to room temperature before freezing it
Step 6. Knead the slime for 2 to 3 minutes
After freezing it, it should already take on the classic consistency of a modeling paste. However, when kneading it will become more and more compact. Just take it out of the bowl and squeeze it with your fingers for about 2-3 minutes.
This type of slime will be the stickiest and stickiest of all the recipes in this article. In fact, it has a viscous consistency and is not particularly elastic
Method 2 of 3: Use Liquid Laundry Detergent
Step 1. Cut a stick of glue and place it in a bowl
Open a stick of glue and take the stick out of the tube. Cut it into small pieces, then place them in a small bowl. Make sure the bowl is suitable for microwave cooking.
- The pieces do not have to be of particular size. You have to cut the glue simply to speed up its dissolution.
- The glue should be heated in the microwave, so make sure the bowl isn't metal!
Step 2. Pour enough water into the bowl to coat the glue chips
You don't need to use precise doses, but 2 to 4 tablespoons of water should be sufficient. Its function is mainly to prevent the glue from drying out while it is being heated.
Give the glue a quick stir to make sure it gets completely submerged in the water
Step 3. Heat the glue in the microwave for about 35 seconds
This time interval should be enough for it to melt. If not, put it back in the microwave and heat it for another 15-20 seconds or so. The glue must dissolve in the water.
Step 4. Add a few drops of food coloring if desired
Keep in mind that the slime will also be dyed by the detergent. For example, if you add yellow food coloring and plan to use blue laundry detergent, the slime will turn green at the end of the preparation!
Start with 1-3 drops of food coloring. By adding more, the coloring will become darker and darker
Step 5. Add a small amount of liquid laundry detergent
If you like the color of the slime, use a clear detergent. If, on the other hand, you want to be a little more daring, you can try a colorful one.
- It is not necessary to make exact measurements, but it would be better to start with just one spoon. You can always add more later.
- Don't use powdered laundry detergent - it's not the same thing.
- You can try using liquid starch, but the end result may not be the same.
Step 6. Stir the solution to a viscous consistency, adding more detergent as needed
As you blend it, the solution will acquire an increasingly sticky consistency. In total, this will presumably take about a couple of minutes.
If the slime is excessively watery, add a little more detergent. Don't use too much: a small amount is enough to get a good result
Step 7. Knead the slime for about 2-3 minutes
Once the ingredients have come together and turned into a smooth paste, remove the slime from the bowl and squeeze it between your fingers for a few minutes. This will help make it a little more compact.
This slime will be a little more compact than the one made using just water and glue sticks
Method 3 of 3: Use a Contact Lens Solution
Step 1. Cut a stick of glue and place it in the bowl
Open a glue stick and remove the stick from the tube. Cut it into small pieces and put them in a bowl. The bits of glue don't have to be the exact size, but smaller ones tend to melt faster.
You don't have to microwave for this recipe, so you can use any type of bowl you want
Step 2. Add some water
You don't have to use a set amount - you need enough to coat the bits of glue. In any case, about 2-4 tablespoons should be enough.
Give the mixture a quick stir, so that the glue is completely immersed in the water
Step 3. Wait for 1 minute for the glue to dissolve, then mix again
The process could take more than 1 minute, this depends on the size of the stick. You simply have to wait for the glue to melt and become milky.
Small lumps of glue may still remain, but this is not a problem, as you will get rid of them by kneading the slime later
Step 4. Add a few drops of food coloring until the desired shade is achieved
Just use a small amount, so start with 1-3 drops and add more if you want a darker color. Make sure you mix the solution well, so that the color is uniform.
Step 5. Add a small amount of contact lens solution
This is the magical ingredient that turns glue into slime! A small amount is enough, so measure only 1 or 2 tablespoons. Remember that you can always add more later.
If you can't find a contact lens solution, try a saline solution instead
Step 6. Stir the solution until you get a slime
This is where the magic begins! At first the mixture will not look like a slime at all, but as you mix it will turn more and more into a modeling paste. However, this process can take a few minutes, so keep stirring.
Also in this case, some pieces of glue may remain in the paste. Don't worry - you'll get rid of them by kneading the slime in the next step
Step 7. Knead the slime for a few minutes focusing on the lumps
The procedure can last from 2 to 3 minutes, depending on how many lumps the mixture has. Kneading it will become more and more like a modeling paste. As you work it, press the small lumps of glue between your fingers.
- You may not be able to get rid of all the lumps - just try to squeeze them as much as possible to remove them as best they can.
- At the end of the procedure, the consistency of the compound will be more similar to that of silly putty than to that of classic slime.
Advice
- It is not essential to add glitter. Glue stick slime is naturally iridescent.
- For best results, use a normal white glue stick. Don't use the purple one that turns white.
- Store the slime in an airtight container when you stop playing with it.
- This slime won't last long, only about 2 or 3 days.
- If you don't have a microwave, you can try letting the dough sit for a few minutes until it melts.
