A neck warmer can be knitted in several ways. You can make a long scarf and then sew it into a circle, or you can make a circle yourself if you have a little more experience with knitting. Both methods will give a satisfactory result.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Simple Neck Warmer
Basically, it is a long scarf, sewn together to form a circle.
Step 1. Mount 60 points
Step 2. Make 2 straight stitches and 2 purl stitches along the row
Step 3. Repeat the row until the scarf measures at least 180cm
- You can also make it shorter if you want. If so, it may measure about 95cm.
- You can make it longer, but remember that you will have to carry it around your neck and support its weight!
Step 4. Loosely rib knit, turning as you finish the stitch
The rib corresponds to 1 straight and 1 purl to the end of the row.
Step 5. Weave the stitches
Line up the two edges together and sew them, turning the ends inward as you sew.
Some people recommend turning one end before sewing the edges to make the scarf twisted. The choice is yours. Remember that, in any case, you will have the possibility to twist it when you wear it
Step 6. Finished
Method 2 of 5: Neck Warmer Made with Circular Needles
If you know how to sew in a circle, this scarf is very simple to do. Choose the pattern and sew.
Step 1. Use a very long circular needle
If you use a short one, you will be able to make a normal neck warmer, but you will not be able to wrap it around itself multiple times.
The iron size should be at least 4mm or more
Step 2. Choose the stitch and pattern you prefer
The straight stitch is good for beginners - make straight stitches in even rows and purl stitches in odd rows. You can vary the number of lines as you work.
Step 3. Choose the length of the scarf
You will need to measure the final length which can vary based on the stitch used. Make a sample of about 15 points and measure its thickness, so you can check how many points correspond to 5 cm and then calculate the final desired length.
Step 4. Mount
Using the calculation from the previous steps, fit the number of stitches you need for the desired length. Then join the beginning and end of the row and start working in a circle.
Step 5. Work in a circle
Step 6. Keep working until you reach the desired height
Then he disassembles and the scarf is finished.
Method 3 of 5: Neck Warmer Usable As A Hood
This pattern is for making a normal neck warmer that you can pull over your head to keep both your neck and head warm. Typically, however, this pattern is not long enough to even be twisted.
Tension: 7 stitches of 2.5cm
Step 1. Use the 2.25mm needles first
- Mount 152 stitches on 3 rows (50-50-52).
- Merge; do not turn the points.
- Work 3.8 cm in circles of 2 straight and 2 purl ribs.
Step 2. Take the 3mm needles
Work as follows:
- First line: straight
- Second line: straight
- Third row: straight
- Fourth row: reverse
- Fifth row: straight
- Sixth row: reverse
- Seventh row: straight
- Eighth line: Reverse.
Step 3. These 8 lines form the pattern
Repeat this 13 more times, making a total of 14 patterns.
Step 4. Go back to the 2.5mm needles
Work the 3.8 cm rib with 2 straight, 2 purl.
Step 5. Loosely ribbed weave
Step 6. Sew the ends neatly
The hood is complete! Try it to check that the fit is right.
Method 4 of 5: Neck Warmer to Make with a Custom Pattern
Step 1. Choose a model
You can create a neck warmer from the design of other pre-made scarves, as long as it is long enough and has a rectangular shape. It should also be of sufficient width. Experiment with getting a pretty scarf that wraps around your neck in a satisfying way.
Step 2. Knit the scarf according to the chosen pattern
Step 3. Sew the ends together when finished to create a circle
Here is a scarf made with your favorite model!
Method 5 of 5: Abbreviations
- Sts = Stitches
- K = Knit (Straight)
- P = Purl (Reverse)
Advice
- If you are using wool, do not wash it in hot water; always use lukewarm or cold water along with wool detergent or hand soap. Always support woolen clothes to prevent them from stretching, even when you take them out of the basin.
- This type of neck warmer is longer than a regular hood with collar. The final look is quite similar, depending on the length of the scarf.
