Drawing with chalk on sidewalks is a great way to bring out the artist in each of us, especially if you are a child. You can make your chalk drawing on a sidewalk for less than if you had to buy chalk at the store. The paint can be mixed before starting, and is non-toxic. Read the article below to learn how to make sidewalk chalk drawings with cornstarch.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Part 1: Get the Material
Step 1. Purchase a large package of cornstarch (cornstarch)
If you want to create many different colors, you will have to work several batches.
Step 2. Get some containers
Some people prefer to use old tin muffin tins to mix, to keep the colors separate and serve as a palette. You could also use small plastic bowls that you can place on the sidewalk outdoors.
Step 3. Buy some food coloring
You can buy a large pack with a wide range of shades, or mix them yourself by simply starting with the primary colors.
Method 2 of 3: Part 2: Mix the Colors
Step 1. Combine the water and cornstarch in the muffin mold or plastic bowls
It should be a ratio of 1 to 1.
- If using shallow bowls or molds, use 2 tablespoons of starch and 2 tablespoons of water in each section.
- If you are using larger containers, combine a cup of starch with a cup of water.
Step 2. Add 5 to 20 drops of food coloring
Mix the colors to taste. For pastel colors you will need a few drops, while for more intense colors you will need more.
You will need to add even more color to achieve a bright red
Step 3. Stir with a large spoon or stick until all lumps are dissolved
The mixture should have a fairly full-bodied consistency.
Method 3 of 3: Part 3: Use Starch Paint
Step 1. Put the containers out on the ground
Step 2. Use brushes
Medium and large sized brushes give the best results.
