Drawing people can be difficult, especially when it comes to children. However, with a little practice, anyone can do it. Here are the steps you need to follow to draw a cute little girl.
Steps
Step 1. Sketch the head
Make a circle and a curved line further down for the chin. Add guidelines as shown in the figure to help you with facial features. You can decide the proportions of the face, depending on whether it is a realistic or cartoon style drawing. The images in this article portray a pretty little girl in a cartoon style (for this reason the proportions are not very realistic).
Step 2. Add two circles for the eyes and two thin curved lines above them for the eyebrows
Make two semicircles for the ears, aligned on the guideline of the eyes.
Step 3. Make her nose and lips
You can also make them bigger or different if you want to make them look less cardboard or not too cute.
Step 4. Sketch the hair
Make her bangs and short hair, or make her long and wavy. Use your imagination.
Step 5. Now sketch the body
Draw a thin neck, a circle for the upper body and an oval for the lower body.
Step 6. For legs and arms, draw 2 ovals joined together
Draw circles for the feet and hands. Make your fingers with small ovals. You don't have to add nail details, but if you do, keep them short and highlight them with color (as if they had nail polish).
Step 7. Design the dress
If you want you can decorate it with a fantasy, or leave it simple. Draw her shoes and put a hat or a ribbon on her head.
Step 8. Add the final lines and final details, such as lashes, bows, etc
You can decide these details; once again, use your imagination!
Step 9. Review the child's outlines and erase the guidelines
You can also add some sort of background, or some other external element, like the shadow.
Step 10. Color the drawing
All done!
Advice
- Stay light with the pencil, so you can easily erase mistakes.
- For most artists, humans are the hardest thing to reproduce, because there are many techniques to do it and many details to take into account. The girl shown in the illustration in this article is a simple example, but it is important to learn the basics before moving on to realistic drawing. So, even if you don't like the cartoon style, try to reproduce this little girl and other simple figures before moving on to something else.
