This tutorial will show you six different ways to draw a cartoon style dog.
Steps
Method 1 of 6: Draw a Forward Facing Dog
Step 1. Draw a large circle and two small circles that overlap under it
Step 2. Draw two sloping lines starting from the two circles and curving slightly at the bottom
Step 3. Draw a straight horizontal line across the bottom and draw two semicircles in front and two more in back
Step 4. Add another curved line behind each side
On the right side you can add a tail facing up.
Step 5. Define the face by tracing the outline of the three circles
Add the ears pointing down on both sides.
Step 6. Trace the face by drawing two small circles for the eyes, two small curved lines for the eyebrows and an oval for the nose
Step 7. Define the front legs by drawing two parallel lines and draw two more parallel lines inside the half circles for the legs
If you want you can add a collar.
Step 8. You can draw the same small lines to make the hind legs
Step 9. Delete unnecessary lines
Add some shadows to the eyes and muzzle, leaving a small circle in each.
Step 10. Color the drawing
Method 2 of 6: Side-facing Dog
Step 1. Draw a circle
Add two curved lines that cross at the beginning of the dog's cheekbones. Add a curved line on the right side of the circle starting from the cheekbone.
Step 2. Draw an oval for the neck and an elongated one for the body
Step 3. Add the front legs using a straight line and another line with a sharp angle at the beginning
For the other paw, you can simply draw two straight lines.
Step 4. Add the hind legs and complete the front ones
The hind legs are not straight, they are instead drawn using curved lines to give the dog a sitting position.
Step 5. Add a rounded shape to create the tail
Step 6. Draw an oval for the nose and a triangle on each side of the head for the ears
Connect the triangles to the head using straight lines.
Step 7. Add the nose details to make it look more protruding
Step 8. Draw the mouth and tongue
To draw the mouth you can use a "U" shape.
Step 9. Draw an arc shape with a curved line at the base to create the eyes
Draw three slanted lines on each eye to make the lashes and one curved line for the eyebrows.
Step 10. Trace the shape of the head and ears by tracing the outline
Step 11. Trace the shape of the body as well and add a collar if you like
Step 12. From the outline, trace all four of the dog's paws
Step 13. Add the details of the legs, defining each "toe" using curved lines
Make sure each leg has four, except one of the hind legs, as it is half hidden and therefore only two "toes" are visible.
Step 14. Darken your pupils and erase unnecessary lines
Step 15. Color the drawing
Method 3 of 6: Sitting Dog
Step 1. Draw a large circle for the head and an oblique oval for the body
Step 2. Next, trace the muzzle and mouth
Step 3. Add the face, nose, ears, little horns, eyes and mouth
You can also try to create expressions and emotions.
Step 4. Trace the legs and tail
Step 5. Draw the basic characteristics of the dog
You can choose whether to do it with short or long hair, according to your preferences.
Step 6. Complete the drawing by adding details such as shadows and hair lines
Step 7. Color
Method 4 of 6: Standing Dog
Step 1. Draw a large circle for the head and a smaller oval for the body, connected to each other
Step 2. Add guidelines for the face and draw a vertical line near the edge of the oval, near the head
Step 3. Add the muzzle area and the ear area
Step 4. Draw guidelines for the dog's position
Step 5. Add the face
In the image you see a test expression. Since it is a cartoon-style subject, it is not limited by the principles of realistic drawing.
Step 6. Draw the basic outlines of the dog
Step 7. Add more details, such as shadows and fur
Step 8. Color it according to your preferences
Method 5 of 6: Dog Sitting in Profile
Step 1. Draw a circle to create the outline of the head
Step 2. Add a line for the outline of the dog's back
Step 3. Add another oval and a curved line for the outline of the dog's body
Step 4. Draw the outline of the front legs
Step 5. Draw the outlines of the hind legs
Step 6. Draw the outline of the tail
Step 7. Draw the outline of the ears and snout
Step 8. Mark the head lines
Step 9. Continue adding the neck lines
Step 10. Mark the body and tail lines
Step 11. Add the front legs
Step 12. Continue adding lines for the hind legs
Step 13. Draw the details of the left front paw
Step 14. Continue with the right front paw lines
Step 15. Complete the details for the paws and add the collar
Step 16. Erase unnecessary lines
Step 17. Fill the areas with base colors
Step 18. Add shadows and shades
Method 6 of 6: Sleeping Dog
Step 1. Draw the sketch for the sleeping dog's head and body
Try to draw a figure that looks almost like two cherries. Two ovals and a curved line above.
