You will never know what happened to that missing sock, but soon you will be able to know what happened to the other half. Some "orphaned" socks after washing can be transformed into a doll to be hugged.
Steps
Step 1. Choose three socks to make your doll
They can be of any size, but remember that the designs and logos that are on the sock will also be on the doll, so if possible choose them in plain colors, not very worn out for this project.
Step 2. Stuff a sock short and sew along the hem.
You can also use a regular sock and cut off the top. The thumb will be the head, the heel will become the bottom end. the opening closed.]
Step 3. Cut the finger of the second sock and turn it over so that the inside comes out
Step 4. Mark the vertical center to draw the legs (with slightly rounded "fingers" like in the picture)
Step 5. Sew about half an inch from the center line, on both sides
Climb on one side and descend on the other, rounding your fingers. Leave about 2.5 cm at the top.
Step 6. Flip again, stuff, and sew the top
These are the legs of your doll.
Step 7. Sew the hems together (with the openings closed) of the two socks
(closed openings) of the two socks. As you sew, make sure your legs and torso fit together at the right angle.
Step 8. Make the arms with the remaining sock
- to get the arm pieces.] Cut toe and heel.
- Flip and draw a straight center line.
- Sew half a centimeter from the center line, on both sides.
- Cut the two parts as in the image.
Step 9. Turn over again, stuff the sock with the straight side out and sew to the torso
Step 10. With sturdy thread, sew small half-centimeter stitches around the neck and pull them a little to form the head
You can also tie a ribbon (the doll scarf) to form the neck and give the doll a unique style
Step 11. Use buttons, beads, moving eyes, [threads and markers to create the doll's face
Step 12. Add wire hair
- Wrap the thread about 30 times around something stiff about one foot wide.
- Put a strip of felt under the thread, perpendicular to the winding direction.
- Hand baste the threads onto the felt strip.
- Turn the mat over and cut the thread in the center, opposite the basted felt strip.
- Machine stitch the threads onto the felt.
- Cut the ends of the felt strip.
- Center the felt strip on the doll's head and sew it.
- You can leave your hair down or make a braid as you like.
Step 13. Decorate with whatever you like
Step 14. Dress up your doll
This can be done by sewing clothes from scraps of fabric or by purchasing pre-made doll clothes. Or you can make clothes that you can put on and take off easily.
Advice
- Felt is a great fabric for the doll, because it does not require hemming.
- Create a family of dolls of different sizes or start a collection. This can inspire your imagination to come up with stories and write about their lives.
- If you use other (colored) socks to create the doll's clothes, remember that the hems of the socks make great hems for sleeves, skirts, pants, etc. So you don't have to hem or tie them yourself. This way you save A LOT of work.
- Always test the marker on paper before drawing on the doll, as it may not be possible to wash it off.
Warnings
- Be careful when using needles and scissors.
- If you have to give the doll to a small child, use only embroidered face decorations, as glued or sewn decorations can fall off and become dangerous.
- Keep an eye out for children younger than 4 when playing with the doll, to reduce the risk of choking.
- Be careful when sewing buttons, as they can break!
- Get help from an adult when sewing.
