The blisters that form on the armpits are often caused by ingrown hair or a buildup of sebum and bacteria. In some cases, however, these are cancerous cysts or bumps. To get rid of pimples it is good practice to practice good personal hygiene, hair removal using appropriate techniques, perform topical treatments and, in severe cases, contact a dermatologist.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Practice Good Personal Hygiene Practice
Step 1. Wash your armpits often
In some cases, pimples develop due to an excess of sebum and bacteria. Consequently, it is good to wash your armpits at least once a day. If you tend to sweat a lot, you may want to do this several times a day to prevent blistering.
You should always wash yourself after exercising to remove all traces of oil and bacteria from your skin
Step 2. Use a natural deodorant
Some deodorants can cause irritation in the armpits and contribute to clogging of pores. Try using fragrance-free and hypoallergenic products to reduce the likelihood of pimples. You can also choose an aluminum-free deodorant.
Step 3. Wear clothes that allow your skin to breathe
Tight clothing can also contribute to the development of pimples because they trap sweat, causing bacteria to proliferate. If you have bubbles on your armpits, wear soft cotton items. They will allow the skin to breathe and keep it dry throughout the day.
Method 2 of 4: Properly Shave the Armpits
Step 1. Apply warm water and salt before hair removal
To lessen the friction created by the razor, apply a salt and water solution to the affected area before shaving it. Pour half a teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm water and mix. Soak a cotton ball and dab it on your armpits. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
This procedure will soften the hair, reducing the chances of developing razor burn and pimples
Step 2. Use a generous layer of hair removal cream
This trick also helps fight irritation while shaving. Never shave your armpits dry, otherwise you risk inflammation, redness and pimples.
Step 3. Shave following the direction the hair grows
To prevent razor burn and pimples, always shave in the same direction of hair growth. It can be tricky in the case of the armpits, as it is an awkward area to control and not all hair grows in the same direction. Try shaving by making a T.
Start at the top of the armpit and work vertically to the bottom edge. Then, depilate it horizontally, passing through the center
Step 4. Change your shaver often
It is important to always use a clean, sharp one to shave your armpits. In fact, a blunt blade causes you to press harder, with the risk of damaging the skin. It is recommended to replace the razor or blade every two weeks.
- If irritation persists, you should avoid shaving and go to the doctor.
- If you are prone to pimples in the armpit area, always shave them using a disposable razor.
Step 5. Try laser hair removal
If pimples appear when you shave your armpits, you can try some alternative methods to remove the hair, such as lasers. This treatment helps to eradicate the classic problems (such as skin irritation and ingrown hair) associated with frequent shaving. However, you have to undergo several sessions and the cost is quite high.
- The treatment takes about 10 minutes. It takes more than 10 sessions for a permanent removal.
- Costs vary depending on the beauty center: contact the one closest to you.
Method 3 of 4: Topical Treatments
Step 1. Apply aloe vera gel
Once formed, pimples can become inflamed and irritated. Apply aloe vera gel to the affected area to soothe the skin and treat the rash.
Step 2. Make a baking soda scrub to exfoliate your skin, leaving it soft, clean and smooth
It can also be effective for treating body acne. Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a few drops of water until it forms a thick paste (gradually add the water). Apply it to your armpits and let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.
Don't do this scrub more than twice a week
Step 3. Treat armpit pimples with honey and turmeric, which is very effective in remedying the problem
Turmeric keeps sebum production in check, while honey moisturizes the skin. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric and two tablespoons of honey.
- Apply the mixture directly on the pimples and leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water;
- Repeat the treatment every two days for good results.
Step 4. Apply hydrocortisone cream to the affected area
Do the treatment for a few days, until the irritation subsides. This product helps fight the itching and swelling associated with pimples that form in the armpit area.
Method 4 of 4: See a Doctor
Step 1. Go to the dermatologist
If pimples are painful, itchy, or bleed, you should speak to a doctor immediately. In some cases, the pimple-like bumps may actually be cysts or symptomatic of a tumor. Ask your dermatologist to examine them to see if the situation is more serious than expected.
Step 2. If according to the dermatologist's diagnosis it is a cyst, it is possible to proceed with a drainage
It is important to avoid crushing it at home, otherwise you risk worsening bacterial growth and causing infections. Let the dermatologist drain it with a scalpel or needle.
- This treatment does not allow the cyst to be removed, but it can reduce swelling if it is filled with pus;
- If you repeatedly suffer from cysts, your dermatologist may prescribe a low-dose antibiotic.
Step 3. Have the cyst removed
In some cases, the dermatologist may recommend that you remove it. It is usually needed when the cyst is large and involves bothersome symptoms.
