Moringa leaves have gained popularity due to the many benefits they offer to the body. However, there are debates about the best way to consume them. Some believe that it is preferable to eat them raw or just cooked, others think that boiling them promotes the release of more nutrients. The choice of method depends on your personal taste and the same is true when serving them. In fact, it is not necessary to use them to prepare particular dishes, so just add them to any dish you want, whether it is hot or cold.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Boil the Leaves
Step 1. Bring the water to a boil
Take a saucepan and pour in enough water to cook the amount of leaves you intend to serve. Adjust the flame to medium-high heat. Wait for the water to boil.
Step 2. Cook the leaves and mix them
Bring the water to a boil, pour in the leaves and stir them in the liquid to wet them evenly. Boil them for about 3 minutes, but be sure to stir often. Otherwise they could stick together and cause the formation of large lumps, with the risk that they have a bad taste.
You don't even have to overcook them. However, keep in mind that larger quantities of leaves require longer cooking times. If so, start tasting them after 3 minutes to make sure you don't spoil them
Step 3. Drain and dry them
Put a colander in the sink and, after 3 minutes, pour the contents of the pot into it. Take every single leaf and spread it on a stack of kitchen paper to keep it from clumping. Press the entire leaf onto the paper to wring out the water. If necessary, move it to another sheet of kitchen paper and repeat the process.
Method 2 of 3: Add the Leaves to a Cold Plate
Step 1. Use moringa leaves to make salads
Choose the recipe you prefer. For each serving, prepare 30 g of the vegetables or vegetables required by the recipe and replace them with the moringa leaves. Try them for:
- Giardiniera salad;
- Caesar salad;
- Russian salad.
Step 2. Add the leaves to smoothies
Just like with salads, make your favorite smoothie. Add 30g of moringa leaves to the other ingredients or use them to substitute for other vegetables required by the recipe. Blend everything and serve!
Step 3. Use them to fill a sandwich
Grill a hamburger, chicken medallion, or portobello mushrooms. Then make some tuna, chicken, or chickpea salad. Alternatively, use the cold cuts of your choice. Finally, top the sandwich with moringa leaves and serve.
Method 3 of 3: Using Leaves in Hot Dishes
Step 1. Incorporate them into scrambled eggs
Make scrambled eggs. Enrich them with cheese if you wish. Season them with your favorite herbs and spices. Wait until the end of cooking to add the moringa leaves. When it is shortly before the end of cooking, add all the leaves you want and let them dry slightly before serving.
In case you have already boiled the leaves, incorporate them only to warm them if they have cooled down
Step 2. Make an omelette
Egg lovers can also try other recipes besides scrambled ones. Moringa leaves go just as well with omelette. However, as with scrambled eggs, only add them at the end. Do you want to use them to fill the omelette? Then incorporate them when it comes to folding. Alternatively, save them for the garnish.
Step 3. Add the moringa leaves to the chili
Again, make the chili following your favorite recipe. Incorporate as many leaves as you like in the last few minutes of cooking. Serve the dish once the leaves have warmed and wilted.
Step 4. Garnish the pizza with the leaves
Simply add the amount of leaves you want to other toppings before baking the pizza. Just make sure you use a generous amount of sauce and never leave the leaves on the dry base. You need to keep them well hydrated to prevent them from burning.
