Banana bread is easy to make and tasty. If you prepare it ahead of time or have leftovers left, you can store them at room temperature or in the freezer. If you plan to consume it within a couple of days, then you can keep it at room temperature. If you want to keep it longer, you may want to put it in the freezer, where you can leave it for several months.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Store Banana Bread at Room Temperature
Step 1. Make sure the banana bread is completely cold before trying to store it
Touch it with your hands: if it is still warm to the touch, let it cool for longer. Placing warm banana bread in an airtight container can cause condensation, a phenomenon that tends to make it soggy.
Step 2. Line the bottom of a plastic container with a paper towel
Use a large enough container.
If you don't have a container, use an airtight plastic bag instead. Spread it out to the side and slip a paper towel into it
Step 3. Place the bread on the paper towel inside the container
If you have decided to use an airtight plastic bag, keep it on its side and arrange the bread in it by placing it on the napkin.
Step 4. Cover the bread with another paper towel
Banana bread is inserted between two napkins. The paper will absorb the moisture from the cake and prevent it from becoming soggy during storage.
Step 5. Secure the lid on the container and keep it
If you have decided to use an airtight plastic bag, press it with one hand to remove excess air and close the zip. If you store it at room temperature, it can be eaten within 2-4 days. After this time, throw it away or move it to the freezer.
- Keep the banana bread in a cool, dry place to extend its shelf life.
- If it smells bad, changes color or gets moldy, then it has gone bad and should be thrown away.
Method 2 of 2: Freeze the Banana Bread
Step 1. Allow the bread to cool completely before freezing it
If it's hot to the touch, wait a little longer. Placing hot food in the freezer can alter the internal temperature of the appliance and prevent the freezing process from taking place properly.
Step 2. Tear off a sheet of cling film to wrap the bread
Make sure it's large enough to allow you to wrap the cake two or three times. The sheet should be around 50-80cm long.
Step 3. Wrap the bread with cling film
Place it on the edge of the paper so that the wide side of the bread is parallel to the long side of the film. Wrap the cling film around the cake several times - you should use the entire sheet you tore. Fold the edges of the cling film in and around the bread so that no areas are exposed. The film will protect it from the air, so as to keep it fresh for longer.
Step 4. Tear off a sheet of aluminum foil about 25cm long
You will need enough to allow you to wrap the bread for at least once.
Step 5. Wrap the bread in aluminum foil by placing the edges of the paper at the bottom of the wrapper
Center the tinfoil on the surface of the bread: the long part of the sheet must be parallel to the width of the cake. Fold the tinfoil around the cake. Make sure you wrap it tightly to keep it intact in the freezer. Tinfoil creates an additional layer of protection, keeping the bread fresh.
Step 6. Wrapped up the bread, place it in a freezer-safe bag
Before closing the zip, press the bag with your hands to remove excess air. You can also use a straw to suck it up.
Step 7. Keep the bread in the freezer for up to 3 months
Write the preparation date on the plastic bag so you know how long you leave it in the freezer. If you want to eat a slice, remove it from the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature on a table. Cut a slice, wrap the cake with cling film and aluminum foil, then put it back in the bag and put it back in the freezer.
