Here is a great recipe, simple and inexpensive, perfect for making a wonderful chocolate syrup. You can use it to tempt milk, fill a cake or decorate a cup of ice cream. In addition to being much cheaper than the one you bought ready-made, your chocolate syrup will be incredibly tastier, plus you will know exactly the ingredients!
Ingrediants
- 130 g of bitter cocoa
- 500 g of sugar (or a substitute of your choice)
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 500 ml of water
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Steps
Step 1. In a 2-3 liter pot, combine cocoa, sugar and salt
The use of a large bowl may seem superfluous, but note that the mixture will tend to increase in volume, so be ready!
To reduce the calorie intake of the recipe, replace the sugar with a sweetener of your choice. In this case, however, do not use the syrup for the preparation of baked desserts, use it only as a topping or as an addition to a drink. Also consume the syrup within a couple of days, as it will not be stored for long if it is made with a sweetener
Step 2. Add cold water and mix with a whisk
Stir until the mixture is perfectly smooth and free of lumps.
Step 3. Cook over medium-low heat for about 3 minutes, bringing the mixture to a gentle boil
Stir occasionally and once 3 minutes have passed, remove it from the heat. It won't have time to thicken, so don't worry if it's still too runny for now.
Step 4. Let the mixture cool and add the vanilla extract
Take the opportunity to taste your syrup and find out if you need to add another pinch of salt or a few more drops of vanilla. Be careful not to burn your tongue!
Step 5. Pour the syrup into a container and store it in the refrigerator
If you made it using classic sugar, you can keep it for about a month. Another good reason to prepare tons of chocolate baked desserts!
Step 6. Use it however you like and enjoy its delicious flavor
You can try replacing the regular pre-purchased chocolate syrup with your own preparation, and see if anyone notices the difference!
Advice
- Spread it on waffles for an unforgettable breakfast.
- Use it as a topping in addition to a sundae, milkshake, or chocolate milk.
- You can use it to make a cold drink similar to Starbucks' delicious Frappuchinos®.
- Since, when you use the sweetener instead of sugar, the shelf life of the syrup is reduced, halve the doses.
