Idli is a South Indian dish. It means rice cake or molded cake. In ancient times it was fried and then eaten. Later this dish was steamed by the Indonesians.
Ingrediants
- 2 cups of boiled rice
- 1/2 cup of black lentils
- 1/2 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds
- salt according to your preferences
Steps
Step 1. Soak the rice and black lentils in water for at least 4 hours
These will then be ground together to form a substance which must ferment for 6 hours.
Step 2. Grind the ingredients separately
Better to do this using a stone grinder, but you can also use a blender (although the consistency of the substance will be coarser).
- Grind the soaked rice.
- Grind the soaked black lentils.
Step 3. Mix them together
Step 4. Leave them in hot water and let them brew for 8 hours
Use a slow cooker or oven to keep the substance warm if you live in areas where the temperature is lower than 23 ° C.
Step 5. Add some salt
Step 6. Put some oil on the steam dishes
Step 7. Apply butter to the dishes
Step 8. Place the steamer in a large preheated pot with water at the bottom to cook
Step 9. Steam for 5-10 minutes until soft
Step 10. Remove the idli from the plate and serve it hot with Chutney or Sambhar
