Most people know that green tea has a very high antioxidant content, but few know that green coffee is as rich. Raw, unroasted coffee beans also contain chlorogenic acid, a natural substance that can help you lose weight. You can enjoy the benefits of green coffee by making it at home or by taking it as a supplement. Remember to talk to your doctor before adding green coffee to your diet, especially if you are on medication.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Making Green Coffee By Boiling
Step 1. Buy green coffee beans
Look for a high quality product obtained through the wet treatment: it is a process in which the coffee beans have not been dried together with the pulp, which would favor the formation of mold. If possible, buy coffee that has been machine peeled, a method that breaks the hard outer membrane without damaging the beans.
You can buy green coffee online or go to a roaster
Step 2. Rinse 170g of green coffee beans and put them in a pot
Pour the beans into a colander and rinse them briefly under cold running water, then transfer them to a saucepan.
Do not rub the coffee beans too vigorously so as not to deprive them of the silvery film which is rich in antioxidants
Step 3. Add 700ml of water and bring it to a boil
Use spring or filtered water and put the lid on the pot. Turn on the stove over high heat and heat the coffee beans until the water begins to boil.
Step 4. Allow the coffee beans to simmer slowly for 12 minutes over medium heat
Remove the lid from the pot and adjust the heat so that the water continues to boil gently. Set the kitchen timer for 12 minutes and remember to stir the coffee beans from time to time.
Stir gently to avoid peeling the silver film off the coffee beans
Step 5. Turn off the stove and filter the extract
Place a colander over a bowl or container suitable for storing coffee. Pour it in slowly to filter it.
- The colander will hold the coffee beans and larger pieces of the silver film.
- If you want, you can store the coffee beans and reuse them. Let them cool, then transfer them to a resealable bag and keep them in the refrigerator. Use them again within 7 days, then throw them away.
Step 6. Drink green coffee
Unlike the one sold in powder that must be mixed, your coffee is ready to be drunk. If you don't like its strong flavor, you can dilute it with water or fruit juice.
You can cover and refrigerate the coffee for 3-4 days
Method 2 of 2: Drink Green Coffee for Its Properties
Step 1. Drink green coffee for weight loss
Some studies seem to indicate that green coffee can prevent weight gain. In fact, it contains a natural organic substance, called chlorogenic acid, which limits the absorption of carbohydrates by the body.
Although more studies need to be conducted, green coffee appears to have the ability to lower blood pressure and regulate blood glucose levels
Step 2. Take green coffee carefully and in the right quantities
If you bought powdered green coffee to mix with boiling water, follow the preparation instructions on the package. Since there is no reliable data on the recommended daily dose of chlorogenic acid, you will have to proceed by trial and error and constantly monitor the results. In case of side effects, immediately reduce the daily dose.
Some studies recommend taking 120 to 300 mg of chlorogenic acid (240-3,000 mg of infused green coffee) daily, but there is no way to calculate exactly how much chlorogenic acid is contained in the coffee you make at home
Step 3. Pay attention to any side effects, such as headaches, dysentery and anxiety
Since green coffee contains more caffeine than traditional roasted coffee, the chances of experiencing some side effects are increased. You may feel agitated, nervous, or have a fast heart rate. If you experience side effects, reduce the dose of coffee and consult your doctor.
Other possible side effects include dysentery, headache, and urinary tract infection
Step 4. Drink green coffee 30 minutes before meals
Both the coffee obtained by infusion and that in powder mixed with boiling water must be taken on an empty stomach. Wait half an hour before having your next meal or snack.
