Coffee-based drinks like cappuccino are popular and delicious, but if drinking them at the local café is a luxury you're trying to cut out, good news: you don't have to do without your dose of coffee, you can make them yourself. ! This article shows you how to make all your favorite coffee drinks at home, using a simple French coffee maker.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Preparation
Step 1. Lift the lid / filter from the pitcher
Step 2. Heat it by swirling some hot water inside so that the glass doesn't crack from the sudden change in temperature when you pour in the boiling water
Step 3. Grind fresh coffee beans slightly coarser than you would find in a coffee pack at the supermarket
Pour 20 grams of coffee into the bottom of the pitcher. You may need to experiment to find the perfect amount for your taste, but this is the normal amount for a small coffee pot.
Step 4. In a half-liter coffee pot, pour 300ml of nearly boiling water up to about two inches from the edge
Pour slowly to avoid splashes of boiling water. Do not boil the water or it will make the coffee more bitter.
Step 5. Swirl the brew with a long-handled spoon to avoid lumps, then immerse the lid / filter until it is resting on the water
Step 6. Leave to infuse until the coffee becomes so dark that you cannot see through it (about 3-4 minutes)
The longer you leave it to infuse, the stronger the coffee will be. This is another thing you need to experience. However, keep in mind one rule: the duration of the infusion regulates the extraction - too little and the coffee will not have extracted enough and will be sour; too long and excessive extraction will make the coffee bitter.
Step 7. Hold the lid firmly to stabilize the filter and slowly push it down smoothly and evenly until it stops
Step 8. Give the coffee just enough time to settle
Pour it through a cloth or a special filter if you want to pass even the slightest sediments.
Part 2 of 4: Whipping the Milk / Cream
Step 1. Use a medium-sized saucepan to put the milk on the stove until it is hot, but don't let it boil
Step 2. While it heats up, grind the coffee beans in the grinder
Step 3. Remove the milk from the heat and place it on a tea towel on the kitchen counter, slightly tilted
Prepare it while the coffee is brewing.
Step 4. Place a hand blender in the bottom of the saucepan and whisk the milk at high speed until the foam is thick, about 2-3 minutes at this speed
Step 5. Pour the coffee into the cups and, using a spoon, pour the milk froth over them
Serve immediately.
Part 3 of 4: Whipping the Cold Milk / Cream
Step 1. Cool the milk in a glass or metal bowl
Put it in the freezer for 15-30 minutes or until the temperature reaches its limit just before freezing. There must be no ice crystals.
Step 2. Take the bowl out of the freezer and place it on a tea towel on the counter
Step 3. Tilt the bowl and submerge the blender
Blend until you get a nice thick foam. Using a spoon, pour it over the coffee. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Part 4 of 4: Whipped Cream
Step 1. For those wishing to use whipped cream, here is a basic recipe:
- 300ml cold whipping cream
- 10 ml of vanilla extract
- 5 grams of powdered sugar
Step 2. Whip the cream with a hand blender in a large bowl until it thickens
Step 3. Add the vanilla and sugar and continue whipping until it is the consistency of whipped cream
