Tekkit is a mod pack for the popular Minecraft PC game that add lots of industrial and magical blocks and items to Minecraft. Due to the huge amount of new items in the pack, you can feel intimidated at first. This article tries to tell you where to start.
Steps
Step 1. If you haven't already, download the Technic Launcher
This is a custom launcher that contains other mod packs, including that RPG style like Hack / Mine, or the single player version of Tekkit, Technic. You can find it at
Step 2. Collect wood, coal, iron and stone like in any other Minecraft world
Tekkit, after all, is still Minecraft.
Step 3. Build the tool to collect resin from trees, called a "treetap"
One of Tekkit's main mods, IndustrialCraft2, requires this device to build almost any machinery. While looking for wood, you may have noticed darker trees with strange orange spots on them. If you right-click on these stains with a treetap you will receive sticky resin, which you can bake in the furnace for gum - in a 1 to 1 ratio.
With a machine available in the most advanced stages, the extractor, you can produce rubber starting from the resin with a ratio of 1 to 3
Step 4. Once you have six pieces of rubber, you can use them together with the copper to create insulated wires
Copper wires, redstone and refined iron (created by melting iron ingots) are required for IC2's most important material, the electronic circuit.
Step 5. Build a macerator and generator
These important and useful blocks, respectively, double the amount of ingots at your disposal and give you energy. You can find their recipes to the right, or in-game thanks to the Not Enough Items mod.
Step 6. The furnace for the alloys (recipe on the right) is required to work with the improved and concealed versions of the redstone, ie the red alloy wires
The furnace for alloys, like the traditional furnace, can be fed with any fuel.
Step 7. Automate your excavations with "turtles"
Using simple Lua codes you can automate in-game robots called "turtles". You can equip them with diamond tools and crafting tables to improve their skills. Lua codes are common in many video games (such as World of Warcraft and Garry's Mod, among others), and you can find code examples for excavator turtles on the ComputerCraft forums.
Step 8. Experiment with BuildCraft's tubes and engines
You can use BuildCraft tubes to move objects, blocks and liquids from one machine to another without having to manually intervene. To start, surround a piece of glass with wooden planks, crushed stone, stone, gold, redstone or diamond to obtain tubes with different characteristics. Their capabilities will differ according to the material you used (diamond tubes sort, wooden tubes can pull materials out of machinery with the help of motors, etc.). By using green cactus dye and a regular BC tube, you can make a waterproof tube that you can use to carry liquids.
Step 9. Harness the power of IC2's energy storage devices and alternative generators
One of the most important blocks to create in the beginning is the BatBox, which can store energy for reuse later. Commonly, you will have to connect your generator to a BatBox, or its big brother, the MFE, and then you will have to connect the rest of the machinery to these blocks. Furthermore, by building solar panels and water turbines you can take advantage of alternative energy sources that will not consume your coal supply.
Step 10. Transmute objects with the Minium Stone (Tekkit Lite) or the Philosopher's Stone (Tekkit Classic)
According to the value of one item, you can turn it into another. Once you've crafted one of these items, you can use it on a crafting table to turn one dye into another, four crushed stone blocks into a flint, four gold bars into a diamond, and so on. Both stones have a 3x3 portable crafting grid, which you can access by pressing C after equipping them.
Step 11. Set yourself end-of-game goals
Do you want very strong armor that absorbs all damage? Do you want a machine that produces items that you can use to build anything? Do you want to defeat the endodragon with a few devastating hits? Tekkit is a very open game, so set yourself goals and try to achieve them.
Advice
- Don't be afraid to go beyond this article to look for things to do in Tekkit. Not many game elements were mentioned, such as Blutricity, Modular PowerSuits, Nuclear Reactors, Oil Refining, Agriculture in IC2, and much more. There is no limit to what you can do in Tekkit.
- Despite the existence of the Technic mod pack, you can also play Tekkit in single player mode (Technic adds some single player only mods).
- Right clicking on an item in Not Enough Items will show you all the recipes in which it can be used. This can be useful with the philosopher's stone, as it allows you to see which objects you can transform.

This article assumes you are using the latest Tekkit Lite package, and not Tekkit Classic. Tekkit Classic still works with Minecraft version 1.2.5 and contains some differences in servers and mods (mainly an older version of Equivalent Exchange, the inclusion of RailCraft and the ability to run Bukkit plugins on the server).
Tekkit Lite also includes some mods not available in Tekkit Classic, such as Factorization, Thermal Expansion, and OmniTools, among others
