Advice
- If XP doesn't recognize your hardware, check the drivers on the vendor's site.
- Set the partition to maximum space if you don't want to partition the disk (for small HDs it is advisable to partition).
- Make sure you plug in the keyboard before starting the installation.
- Don't forget to set the boot priority in the BIOS. Most of the time the BIOS is set to read Floppy, HDD, and then CD-ROM. You need to set the boot priority to load CD-ROM first, then Floppy and HDD.
- Windows can be upgraded if you already have the previous version of Windows running - just insert the CD into the CD-ROM and follow the instructions.
- To validate Windows (to confirm whether it is pirated or not), go to the official Microsoft website and download one of the Microsoft products available for free, except for Windows Live Messenger. The site will ask you to download a small program that provides a code called [Validation Code], run it and press Enter or just copy and paste the code into the validation code field on the Microsoft site that appears when you are about to download something from there.
- If you are having difficulty installing, the Windows installer will give technical information about the error that can help determine the cause. Check the troubleshooter on Microsoft's official site for assistance with common installation problems.
Warnings
- Make a backup before reinstalling windows.
- Get all hardware drivers.
- This procedure is the same for other windows, except win 95 and earlier.
- Installing XP on a PC that does not meet the minimum requirements will significantly slow down the machine.
- Make sure you activate Windows within 30 days of installation, otherwise the system will not allow you to log in until the activation is complete. Conversely, do not activate the system until you have tested that the drivers and everything works fine, because if you have to reinstall several times, the system will refuse to reactivate, as you have recently done so.
