"Today I lost my guitar pick for the thousandth time - I bet they all meet under the bed and talk about me while I sleep:(" This Facebook status was written quickly and haphazardly, thinking it would get approval from a couple of friends. When the user woke up the next morning, hold on tight, he had more than 15 likes. Is the person who wrote this status popular up to this point? No. Was the status incredibly memorable? No, it bordered on stupidity. Yet somehow a significant number of people liked it. If people don't notice your status updates on Facebook, it's not the end of the world. But it's still nice to know that people think you have something interesting to say and that these statuses are the means to do so.
Steps
Step 1. Write things that make you laugh
Probably the first reason people use the internet today is to have fun and have a laugh. Fortunately, only a few of you disagree with this use of the network. Write a silly remark, a ridiculous thing that happened to you during the day. Some of you will say "But I don't make people laugh and nothing funny ever happens to me." But yes, you make people laugh and yes, it happens to you. Have you ever thought at some point in the day "Why did I put the sock on and now I can't find the shoe?" or "Do these pigeons know how much my new car costs?" Here are two "like" statuses, or at least, if written better, they can become fun statuses. If it doesn't work the first time, continue on the same line. A sense of humor is a muscle, a hilarious muscle that works on Facebook like in real life.
Step 2. Write about an achievement, milestone or success
Friends are in solidarity with each other and rejoice when you rejoice; that is why the statuses with the achieved successes work. Write about everything from the birth of your first child to the fact that you managed to get tickets to a concert. Your friends, and especially your mom (and that jealous friend who shouldn't be jealous of you) will like your status simply because they are happy for you. You can also combine this with the funny guy status and write for example that you can make yourself a bologna sandwich without hands. However, there is a fine line between rejoicing that your child is back from the war earlier than expected and rejoicing that the Smurfs movie DVD is out sooner than expected.
Step 3. Write down things aimed at someone in particular
This is on the same status line with milestones achieved, but it's for when you're not aiming for maximum likes. In these statuses you can tag your friends and remember the time they hit you in the face or when you tried to mix Coke with Mentos. Especially tagged friends will be inclined to like, and maybe friends of friends will too, wanting to participate in the beautiful tale you provided with a status. Jokes that only a few can understand are fine, but be careful: the fewer people will understand the jokes, the less likes you will get. And don't get too personal; what is and what is not appropriate to say in a Facebook status, then, is a different matter.
Step 4. Write about things your friends already like
Think about the things you have in common with your Facebook friends. Musical tastes? Sport? Food? Post a music video of the genre that you and your friends like the most. Make a prediction about the championship results. Publish a recipe with a captivating image.
Advice
- Look at the statuses of other people who have received "an avalanche of likes". What makes them interesting?
- Be yourself. Friends are your friends for different reasons that one may like your status and another may not. Always give a faithful representation of yourself in Facebook statuses as if you were standing in front of your friends in person.
- Quotes aren't bad, but they don't have to be offensive, unclear or song lyrics.
- Make short statuses.
- Generally write interesting, positive and inclusive statuses.
- Twitter typically uses the same formula for success.
- Never post anything that is violent or that could be considered offensive by someone.
Warnings
- Avoid "Like If …" and other prepackaged statuses. People like originality.
- Avoid negativity. No one likes negative statuses. They sadden people and there are other ways to let off steam outside of Facebook.
- Avoid updating your status all the time. Unless it's a joke, your friends won't like your 4,000 status updates on what you ate for breakfast or how you brushed your teeth.
- Avoid offending people with statuses about your strong political or moral views. You will not receive any likes, but you will have a good number of comments. Especially angry comments.
- Avoid explaining a funny status. It will no longer be automatically!
- Don't get too wrapped up in Facebook statuses. They are not accurate estimates of your popularity or what people think of you.
- Avoid trying too hard to find status events or spend all day thinking about something to write. People like everyday happenings, those pearls that happen to everyone.
