Step 14. Examine the value listed under "File Size"
It should be listed in the Photo Investigator tab that appears below the selected photo.
The displayed value should be in megabytes (MB)
Method 2 of 4: Using a Computer
Step 1. Connect the iOS device to the computer
Use the USB data cable that came with the device at the time of purchase.
Step 2. Log in to the iOS device from your computer
The procedure to follow varies according to the operating system in use:
- Windows - open a "File Explorer" or "Explorer" window (depending on the Windows version), then double-click the iOS device icon located in the "Devices and Drives" section.
- Mac - double-click the iOS device icon that appeared directly on the computer desktop.
Step 3. Access the "DCIM" folder by double clicking on the corresponding icon
Step 4. Locate the image whose size you want to find out
Step 5. Access the detailed information of the selected file
Once you have found the image to examine, you will need to open the window containing the file information.
- Windows - select the image file with the right mouse button, then choose the Properties option from the context menu that will appear.
- Mac - select the image you want to scan, then press the Command hotkey combination.
Step 6. Examine the size of the photo
There should be two values: one that is rounded and easier to read (for example 1.67 MB) and a second relative to the actual size (for example 1,761,780 bytes).
This information should be placed next to "Size" or "File Size"
Method 3 of 4: Using the Mail App
Step 1. Launch the Photos app
Actually tracing the size of an image using the Photos application is not possible, however you can use it to quickly attach the chosen photo to a new e-mail message through which you will be able to view the space occupied in memory. Remember that this step is only to be able to view the size of the file, so you don't necessarily have to send the email.
Step 2. Go to the Albums tab
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Select the Camera Roll option
If you know exactly where the photo to be examined is stored, you can directly choose the album in which it is contained. This will speed up the search procedure.
Step 4. Select the image to scan
Step 5. Press the "Share" button
It features a square icon with an arrow pointing upwards. It is located in the lower left corner of the screen.
Step 6. Choose the Mail option
The page for creating a new email will be displayed where the chosen photo will automatically appear as an attachment.
Step 7. Tap the "To" field
Step 8. Enter your email address
Step 9. Press the Submit button
You will have to choose whether or not to resize the image attached to the message.
If you have not entered the subject of the email, you will be asked to confirm that the message does not contain any subject
Step 10. Check the value reported under "Actual Size"
It should appear at the bottom of the page. This figure represents an approximation of the size of the photo you have chosen.
If you have selected multiple images, only the total size of the attachments will be displayed (in this case you will not be able to trace the size of each individual photo)
Method 4 of 4: Using a Modified iOS Device
This method works only in the case of a jailbroken iOS device and allows you to view the size of an image directly using the Photos application. The jailbreak process can be complex and difficult to perform, as well as invalidating the device warranty. Read this article for more information on how to jailbreak an iOS device.
Step 1. Launch the Cydia app
This is the app store from which you can download all applications and programs that do not appear in the Apple App Store. In this case, you need to download an extension for the Photos app that allows you to view detailed information of the images stored on the device.
