Theoretically, you should change the engine oil every three months or 5000km, but if you drive in very hot climates or in a lot of dust, a higher frequency may also be required. The procedure is very simple, like counting from one to three.
Steps
Step 1. Get ready
Get the replacement oil and filter.
Step 2. Gather other materials
Keep the jack, a wrench with several sockets and oil close at hand.
Park your car on a level surface or, if it is very low, on raised wedges. If you decide to support the vehicle, use two stands instead of a wedge (an extra stand costs about 15-20 euros: a good investment considering the fact that it guarantees a greater balance of the vehicle and avoids serious injuries)
Step 3. Keep the engine running for 10 minutes
In this way, the oil flows more easily; you should manually check the weight of the vehicle oil and the filter you need to use.
Step 4. Empty and replace the filter
Slip under the vehicle and find the engine oil valve located in the front of the underbody; use a socket wrench to loosen the nut by turning it counterclockwise. Once removed, you can continue to unscrew it by hand and remove the cap; in this way, the hot oil begins to drain. Make sure everything falls into the collection container; when it is completely out, clean the screw and opening.
Step 5. You can now replace the valve gasket and re-insert the cap with the socket wrench but without overtightening
Step 6. Find the oil filter
Typically, it is located near the engine; eliminates any residual oil from the cup.
-
Remove the filter (use gloves if it is too hot) and clean the housing with a rag, especially if it is inside the engine.
- Insert the gasket into the new filter and tighten it by hand; you don't have to use a wrench to tighten it.
Step 7. Add the new oil
Remove the cap located above the engine. Insert a funnel into the opening and check the motor capacity on the user manual; in general, you need to add 4-5 liters of oil. Once the engine and sump are filled, put the cap back on.
Step 8. Start the engine and let it run for one minute
Check the oil level with the stick probe and, if necessary, add more; at this point, check the drain valve and observe any leaks. If you notice any liquid leaking out, simply tighten the screw or oil filter. Are you done.
Step 9. Clean up
Wipe off the excess oil, pour the old oil into a plastic container and dispose of it. Don't pour it where it happens to you! Deliver it to a waste oil recovery center or other authorized facility.
