Vacation plans don't always go as planned, so you may find yourself having to cancel your hotel reservation. If you booked through Expedia, you have probably already paid for the room. Fortunately, if you cancel everything by the hotel deadline, there's a good chance you'll be able to get a refund. You can cancel your booking through the Expedia website or by calling their customer service.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Canceling the Online Hotel Reservation
Step 1. Look for your itinerary number in the Expedia confirmation email
When you booked your hotel you should have received an email from Expedia showing your booking details and itinerary number. Please have this email handy to make the unsubscribe process easier.
Step 2. Click on "Personal Itineraries" on the Expedia website
You will find the link in the drop-down menu that will open by clicking on "Manage reservations", at the top right of the Expedia home page. Clicking on this link will take you to a login page that will allow you to view the details of your vacation.
Step 3. Log into your account
Use the email address and password you used to book the hotel and log into your account. You can also use your email address and itinerary number if you don't remember the password you created. Click on "Submit" to log into your account and view your itineraries.
Step 4. Click on "Futures" on the menu, then select your reservation
You can find it under "Futures". Once found, click on the link to view its details.
- Read the itinerary details to find out if the reservation is refundable or non-refundable. This will allow you to understand if you can get your money back.
- Most hotel bookings are fully refundable if you cancel before the hotel deadline.
- If you have booked a non-refundable solution, you may still have the option to cancel it and get a refund within 24 hours. Read the "Terms of Service" to know the exact details of your reservation.
Step 5. Click on "Cancel Reservation" on the right side of the screen
Once the itinerary is displayed, there should be two options on the right side of the screen: cancel or change your booking. Click on "Cancel Reservation" to proceed.
- Instead, click on "Edit" to change the details of the reservation rather than cancel it.
- Please contact the hotel directly to make special requests, such as a smoking room, a specific type of bed or a room that has wheelchair access.
Step 6. Finalize the deletion by clicking on "Delete room"
By pressing the yellow "Delete camera" button on the right side of the screen, you will complete your deletion. Once clicked, you will be directed to a page that will show you the details of the cancellation made.
It may take up to 7 business days for the refund to be transferred to your account
Part 2 of 3: Call Expedia to Change or Cancel Reservation
Step 1. Open your booking itinerary
Having your travel details on hand will make it easier to cancel your booking over the phone. Go to Expedia and click on "Personal Itineraries" to view your travel itinerary. You will find the link in the drop-down menu that will open by clicking on "Manage reservations".
Step 2. Call the number +39 02 91483700 from Italy or abroad
Use a mobile or landline phone to call customer support.
Step 3. Follow the instructions of the recorded voice
Once the call is initiated, you will be guided by a recorded voice. Enter "1" to indicate that you have already made a reservation, then enter "3" to cancel it. Once you have entered "3", you will be asked to enter your itinerary number or the telephone number associated with the reservation made.
Part 3 of 3: Troubleshooting
Step 1. Contact the hotel directly if you are unable to cancel via Expedia
There may be some circumstances where you will need to cancel your chosen hotel reservation through the same hotel instead of through Expedia, even if you originally booked through Expedia. In this case, look up the hotel number and call. Talk to a customer service representative and explain that you would like to cancel the reservation.
Step 2. Contact Expedia online to ask any questions
Go to this page and click on "Contact Us". You will be directed to a fill-in form that you can use to ask Expedia what you want about your booking. If you have any problems canceling your booking, you can use this form to contact support.
Step 3. Alternatively, send Expedia a direct message via social network
You can send a direct message on their Twitter page. Click on the envelope image to send a direct message and explain the problems encountered with the cancellation. If you prefer to use Facebook, you can visit their page. Then send a message via the chat located at the bottom right of the Facebook page.
