"Spin" is an English word which means "spin". Spinning a golf ball means hitting it so that it spins as it travels. Giving backspin means hitting it so that it rotates in the opposite direction to the direction of its own motion, while giving spin means hitting it so that it rotates in the same direction as its motion. Using the backspin technique the golf ball will travel along a trajectory with a wider arc and travel a greater distance. Also, hitting the ball in this way is more likely to stop once it hits the ground, rather than roll forward. To learn how to backspin a golf ball, read this guide.
Steps
Step 1. Evaluate the turf
Make sure you play on very short grass - long grass prevents the ball from gaining spin.
Step 2. Choose a soft golf ball:
it is more difficult to spin a hard ball.
Step 3. Choose the stick
-
Use a high lofted cane; if you have it, use a lob wedge or a sand wedge: the height of the ball's trajectory increases as the loft of the club increases.
-
Make sure the club head is not damaged or dirty - choose another wedge or consult a maintenance specialist if the head is too damaged.
Step 4. Position yourself next to the ball
-
Position yourself so that you are practically on top of the ball and so that your back foot is at your side.
- Keep your feet closer than usual for a swing.
Step 5. Hit the ball
-
Bring the stick behind you so that it is vertical and up.
-
Hit the ball back and down, without touching the ground.
-
Make the club head leave a long, shallow trace in the ground as it travels.
- Accompany the movement. Keep your waist steady as you accompany the swing movement with your torso.
Advice
- The loft number of a club indicates the angle between the head and the shaft of the club. The higher the number, the greater the angle between the head and the shaft. To understand what loft is, imagine a vertical line perpendicular to the ground: when the golf club is aligned with this imaginary line, the head protrudes away from that same line. Club loft is the angle between the perpendicular line and the club head.
- You can also hit a golf ball by giving it a side spin. However, golfers generally try to avoid giving a side spin because it would give the golf ball a curved trajectory, which moves away from the target.
- Hitting a golf ball should aim to form a trajectory with an angle of 45 degrees. This is the angle at which the distance traveled by the ball, all other things being equal, will be greatest.
