Betta Splendens fish are extraordinarily curious and sociable. Playing it has fun and can also be taught tricks.
Steps
Step 1. See if it follows your finger or moves away from it
Betta Splendens follow food, especially if it's their favorite. Try to train yours to follow you and rise to the surface when it's time to eat. Or, if you feed him leeches, teach him to chase the tweezers you used to catch them.
Bettas can in fact jump if they see leeches or other insects near the tank (another delicacy for the fish). If this makes you entertained, make sure the fish fall back in. If you don't want to encourage this behavior, avoid keeping food close to the surface of the tank
Step 2. Experiment with different objects
Bettas are very curious and love to discover new things. If small and clean enough, try inserting an object into the tub. Otherwise try to make it move around and see how the little fish reacts!
Step 3. Feed him 'live' food from time to time
Specific fishing and fish shops offer live worms and most Bettas will hunt them with enthusiasm. Have your diet varied and balanced.
Step 4. Try to pet your Betta
Always keep your hands clean and well-rinsed when you put them in the tank and respect their preferences if the fish don't like it. If he is curious when you approach the tub to clean or to do other things, try gently brushing him. Reward him with food if you want to encourage him to cuddle.
