BB Cream is a popular all-in-one cosmetic whose function is usually to act as a moisturizer, primer and light tinted cream. If you've never used it before though, you could easily make the mistake of applying too much of it. In case you need help learning how to apply it properly, read on.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Method 1: Choose the Right BB Cream
Step 1. Find out what BB Cream has to offer
While each BB Cream has a wide variety of properties and offers different effects, each product can have particular characteristics. Make sure you know exactly what a BB Cream claims to offer before buying it.
-
Possible properties include the following:
- It acts as a moisturizer.
- Whiten the skin.
- Blocks UV rays.
- It acts as a primer for the skin.
- Color the skin.
- It refracts the light to make the skin appear more radiant.
- Provides anti-aging components.
- It nourishes the skin with vitamins.
- You should also research the BB Cream manufacturer. Buy one made by a reputable company.
Step 2. Read BB Cream Reviews
Although a cosmetic company is known and despite what the cream packaging promises, each product works differently for each person. Reading reviews will help you understand if the product is good quality and suitable for you.
Pay particular attention to reviews that mention skin tone, type and condition, so that you can apply them to your needs
Step 3. Choose the best BB Cream for your skin type
Different skin types have different cosmetic needs. For a noteworthy experience with this product, select one designed for oily, normal or dry skin, depending on how your skin is.
- If you have oily skin, consider a matte finish BB Cream. Also consider ones that contain natural plant extracts. This type of skin tends to be sensitive and a BB Cream with natural extracts will be less likely to cause irritation.
- If you have normal skin, consider a moisturizing BB Cream, which can make your skin look smooth. You may also want to look for one that contains a whitening substance if you need to balance your skin tone.
- If you have dry skin, choose a watery BB Cream instead of a thick one, as robust creams can cause excess dryness. You should also opt for moisturizing formulations.
Step 4. Choose the tone that best suits your skin
BB Creams do not tend to have a wide range of shades, so you will need to find the perfect one for you among the available colors. The tone that comes closest to your natural skin tone will likely be the one indicated.
When comparing tones, compare the color of the BB Cream with that of the skin on your face and neck. Do not do this with your hands, as the skin in this area may differ slightly from that of the face
Step 5. If possible, get a sample
Request one at the perfumery, spread the cream on your face and keep it on throughout the day. Check its appearance in both natural and artificial light.
Lights can make a big difference in looks. Lighting in a perfumery may not give you an accurate idea of what the cream would look like on your face once you are outside. Therefore, it is better to try BB Cream in various places for a few hours instead of buying it directly
Method 2 of 4: Method 2: Apply the BB Cream with your Fingers
Step 1. Find out when and why to use your fingers
Most people prefer to use them to apply BB Cream, as this is the simplest method.
- Full-bodied BB Creams should be applied with your fingers, as the heat from the skin will melt them, making it easier to apply.
- However, spreading the BB Cream with your fingers will produce a less smooth result than applying with a sponge or brush.
Step 2. Squeeze a small amount of product onto the back of your hand
Squeeze the tube so that an amount of BB Cream equal to 1.9 cm in diameter comes out, as if it were the size of a coin, on the back of your hand.
In reality, this is not essential. However, doing so will make it easier to apply the cream in equal proportions
Step 3. Apply five dots of cream:
on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Dip the tip of the middle finger in the BB Cream poured on the back of the hand and, after having taken it, tap the index finger on the face to create dots: one in the center of the forehead, one on the tip of the nose, one on the left cheek, one on the right cheek and one on the chin.
- The dots of BB Cream should be of an equal size for optimal application.
- Do not apply the cream in streaks or creating spots. You should apply it sparingly, spreading a thin layer all over your face so that the skin doesn't look heavy or fake.
Step 4. Dab the cream on the skin
Use your index and middle fingers to gently tap the cream. Spread it on your skin in a circular motion, but instead of keeping your fingers in contact with the skin throughout the application, tap it as you stretch it.
- This gentle and light pressure will make you spread the cream evenly without irritating the skin.
- Start at the forehead and work the product from the center moving down on each cheek. Then, move towards the nose and chin and finish by returning to the cheeks.
Step 5. Alternatively, blend it gently outwards
If you are not a fan of the tapping technique, you can apply it by applying gentle pressure with the pads of the index and middle fingers. Mix each dot of cream with your skin by spreading it from the inside to the outside of the face, like a common moisturizer.
As before, start with the forehead before moving on to the nose and chin. Finish with the cheeks
Step 6. Gently pat the cream around the eyes
The pressure in this area will need to be even more subdued, whether you tap it or melt it into the skin by spreading it as if it were a normal cream.
By opting for gentle pressure near the eyes, you can prevent fine lines that may appear due to the classic motion you use for the rest of the face. Remember that this area is particularly sensitive
Step 7. Tap a little more to cover imperfections
Wait a few minutes for the BB Cream to dry. Later, if there are any particular areas that need extra coverage, you can dab another thin layer of BB Cream over them.
Note that you could never achieve a perfect result with a BB Cream, as this product tends to even out the complexion and its primary purpose is not to cover imperfections
Method 3 of 4: Method 3: Apply the BB Cream with a Sponge
Step 1. Find out when and why to use a sponge
This type of application is more suitable for people with oily skin.
- If you have oily skin, applying a BB Cream with your fingers could add even more oils to your facial skin.
- A brush has less strength, so if you have oily skin, you may find it difficult to evenly spread the BB Cream using this tool.
Step 2. Apply thermal water or a moisturizing facial spray
Spray this product on the sponge before applying the BB Cream.
- Using a sponge can throw your skin's moisture levels off balance, so face moisturizing water can help prevent this.
- Spraying the sponge with this water before application also allows you to spread the cream more evenly, effectively spreading the product on the face instead of letting it all disperse on the sponge.
Step 3. Run a small amount onto the back of your hand
Squeeze the tube of BB Cream into a 1.9cm diameter, the same size as a coin, on the back of your hand.
To be sure, this is not essential, but it will make it easier to apply the cream in equal proportions
Step 4. Apply five dots:
on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Dip the tip of your middle finger into the BB Cream on the back of your hand. Tap the cream onto your face using your index finger. Apply it only in dots: one in the center of the forehead, one on the tip of the nose, one on the left cheek, one on the right cheek and one on the chin.
- Although you will apply the BB Cream using a makeup sponge, you should still dab the initial amount on the skin using your fingers in order to manage it better.
- The dots in BB Cream should be more or less similar.
- Avoid creating streaks or spots. You should spread the cream all over your face sparingly, applying a thin layer to prevent the result from being too heavy and obviously fake.
Step 5. Smooth the BB Cream onto the skin using a sponge
Apply the product with firm, even strokes that go outwards.
- Apply enough pressure to “shake” the skin, which will move slightly due to the vibration.
- Start from the forehead and work it outwards from the center. Then, focus on your nose and chin. Finish by spreading the BB Cream on the cheeks with strokes that go outwards.
Step 6. Decrease the pressure around the eye area
This area is more sensitive, so excessive pressure can damage the skin. Apply the BB Cream to this area using a tapping motion.
- You can use both your fingers and the sponge at this point. If you feel you have less control over drafting and sponge pressure, use your fingers.
- By using light tapping pressure on the eye contour, you can prevent fine lines that could be caused by a movement that can stress the skin of this area, which is particularly sensitive.
Method 4 of 4: Part 4: Apply the BB Cream with a Brush
Step 1. Find out when and why to use a makeup brush
This method is best if you have dry skin and works especially well with liquid BB creams.
- Remember that this method is generally not recommended for thick, full-bodied creams.
- If you have dry skin, using your fingers to apply the product can irritate the skin even more, causing more dehydration.
- As if this were not enough, using a sponge can be too aggressive and reduce the hydration of this type of skin, which is already low.
Step 2. Pour a small amount of cream onto the palm of one hand
Squeeze the tube of BB Cream into the palm of your hand creating a 1.9 cm diameter, similar in size to a coin.
- This is not really necessary, but it must be said that it will facilitate the drafting of the cream in equal proportions.
- For this method, use the palm of your hand instead of the back. The palm gives off more heat, so it can heat and liquefy the BB Cream more effectively than the back. Therefore, it makes the product easier to spread, especially if the cream has a rather full-bodied consistency.
Step 3. Apply five dots:
on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Dip the tip of the middle finger into the BB Cream on the palm of your hand. Tap the cream on your face with your index finger. Apply it only in dots: one in the center of the forehead, one on the tip of the nose, one on the right cheek, one on the left cheek and one on the chin.
- Although BB Cream is done with a makeup brush, you should still tap the initial amounts of cream onto the skin using your fingers in order to better control the doses.
- The dots in BB Cream should be the same size.
- Prevent the formation of streaks and spots. You should use the cream sparingly, applying a thin layer to prevent the skin from getting too loaded and having a fake effect.
Step 4. Spread the BB Cream on your face using a brush
Follow uniform, firm, outward movements to spread the cream on the skin, making it penetrate well.
- A brush is naturally a little softer and more delicate than fingers or a sponge. Consequently, you shouldn't be afraid to apply light pressure.
- Start working the cream from your forehead. Start from the center of the forehead and brush the product upwards and the two outer sides. Then, brush it on your nose, following a top-to-bottom motion, and on your chin, from side to side. Blend the BB Cream with the cheeks in all directions, until it meets the border of each previous treated area.
Step 5. Work the cream around the eyes
This area is more sensitive, so strong pressure can damage the skin. Apply the BB Cream to this area using a tapping motion.
- In this part, you can use your fingers or the brush. In general, it is more difficult to apply too much pressure with a brush, which is therefore ideal for this area.
- By opting for gentle pressure on the eye contour, you prevent fine lines that could appear if you exercise movements capable of stressing the skin, which is particularly sensitive.
