Brazilian waxing has the power to make you feel incredibly fresh and more sensitive in the shaved area, however it can be embarrassing to do it in a beauty salon. There is no reason to show your private parts to a stranger when you can shave on your own, right? If you can handle the pain of shaving the most sensitive part of your body, then you will be able to do it yourself, for even less. Learn how to make yourself a Brazilian wax worthy of the best beauty salon, but in the privacy of your bathroom.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Preparation
Step 1. Familiarize yourself with the risks
Waxing is usually a safe practice, but every time you pull the hair out of your skin, there may be some inconvenience. These are problems that can also occur in a beautician's shop, but most professionals know how to avoid them. Here's what you need to watch out for:
- First of all, waxing (anywhere on your body) puts you at risk of developing ingrown hair, which is hair that grows under the skin. The result is a painful and irritated pimple. If you use the right technique and take care of your skin after hair removal, you can avoid them.
- Also you could burn yourself with the wax. However, doing the test on a less sensitive part of the body, such as the back of the hand, before application is certainly helpful.
- Some people who wax, especially for the first time, develop folliculitis, that is, inflammation of the hair follicles. It usually goes away within a week, and if you follow the right post-hair removal procedures, there is less chance of it forming.
- Consider seeing a beautician the first time. This way you will understand how the procedure should be performed and how unpleasant side effects can be avoided. Look for a unisex beauty salon that has many reviews from men who have had Brazilian waxing. If after your first experience with a professional you want to go it alone, read on.
Step 2. Buy a waxing kit
You can buy it online, at the supermarket or in a beauty center. Since you are going to be depilating the most sensitive area of your body, you need to buy suitable material. Make sure it's the wax you use for Brazilian hair removal. Don't buy the one for the body or the legs!
- The kit should consist of a jar of wax that can be heated (in the microwave or in a suitable heater), strips, sticks to distribute the wax and an oil.
- Some people make their own wax by mixing honey, sugar, and other ingredients. If you want to do it too, first run a test on another part of the body, to be sure it is effective on the hair without sticking to the skin.
Step 3. Prepare the room where you will be waxing
The bathroom is usually the best place because it is easier to clean the tile floor of wax than the carpet or parquet. However, you will need a room where you can move and stretch out, so if the bathroom is too small, use another room.
- Spread a plastic sheet, old newspapers or other similar protection on the floor.
- Have some oil and paper towels available to clean up. A body oil, olive oil or another type instantly removes wax from many surfaces (including skin).
Step 4. Trim the hair
You need to adjust the hair length to about 1cm. Anything shorter than half a centimeter will be difficult to take off and you will pull the skin unnecessarily and with pain. The same goes for those longer than 1 cm. Use scissors to trim too long hair anywhere on the body you want to shave.
Step 5. Take a warm shower
This way you prepare the skin by dilating the pores a little. Organize yourself so that your skin is still warm and supple by the time you begin hair removal.
- Exfoliate your skin while in the shower. Eliminates dead cells for a more defined and clean wax. Gently scrub the area you want to shave with a vegetable sponge or body scrub.
- Dry completely when you are done, the skin should not be damp.
- Do not apply any lotion or oil after showering.
- If you wish, you can distribute a little baby powder, it will help the wax adhere to the skin.
Step 6. Heat the wax and try it on
Read the instructions on the kit very carefully and heat the wax until it is melted and liquid. Mix it with one of the sticks included in the package. When it is melted, test it by placing a small amount on the back of your hand. If it feels hot to you, wait for it to cool down a bit before starting hair removal. If it's hard to spread, heat it up some more.
During the hair removal process, you will need to stop to reheat the wax, especially if this is your first time doing it yourself. Do not rush! If you don't want to run to the microwave every 10 minutes, consider purchasing a special heater to prevent the wax from cooling
Part 2 of 3: Hair removal
Step 1. Start with the hair at the base of the penis
These are the simplest ones to remove. Once you understand how they detach, you can move to more difficult to reach areas. Lift the penis towards you before starting the hair removal, then move it to the side and remove the side hair in the same way.
Step 2. Apply the wax in small quantities
Don't put in too much at one time or you'll make a sticky mess. Dip the stick in the wax and spread it on a surface covered with hair that is less than 6 cm2. Removing a few hairs at a time is the best way to manage pain and to make sure you don't hurt yourself.
- Apply the wax following the direction of hair growth. Remember that they grow in various directions, so check each area well before spreading the wax.
- Use the stick from the kit to spread an even layer of wax in one motion, just like you smear cheese on your cracker. Do not rub or move the stick back and forth.
- Change the stick often to maintain good hygiene and prevent infections.
Step 3. Place a strip on the wax and tear it off against the grain
This is an important step: do not tear in the direction of hair growth or they will not come off evenly. Here's what you need to do to have a clean tear:
- After setting the strip, dab it lightly to make it adhere to the wax.
- With one hand, hold the skin taut, near the end of the strip. This is really important, especially where the skin is softer.
- Grab the hair removal strip with your thumb and forefinger.
- Pull the strip in one swift continuous motion. Don't do it slowly!
Step 4. When you are done with the base and shaft of the penis, shave the scrotum
Use two fingers to keep the skin taut so it doesn't tear excessively when you shave it. Use the same method to apply small amounts of wax and continue shaving a little at a time until the scrotum is completely clean of hair.
Step 5. Continue to the back
If you have hair behind the scrotum and towards the anus, you will need to be very flexible to reach each area to be depilated. Move your legs to a comfortable position and continue to spread the wax in small areas at a time until you are satisfied with the result.
Step 6. Check the work in a mirror
There will probably be some hair that you have left out. You can decide to remove them with a little more wax, or use tweezers.
Part 3 of 3: Aftercare
Step 1. Clean the area
Rub the oil that is included in the hair removal kit (or another type of oil suitable for the skin) to remove the small residues of wax that have stuck to the body. Gently massage the dry wax to loosen it, then return to the shower and rinse off with warm water.
- When all the wax has been removed, you can wash yourself with a mild detergent.
- Do not use soap bars because they leave a film on the skin that favors ingrown hair.
Step 2. Hydrate the area
A natural product (without chemicals) soothes the skin that can be red and irritated after hair removal. You can use a natural lotion or a little coconut oil with some tea tree drops. This way you prevent infections and ingrown hairs.
If your skin feels inflamed even after moisturizing it, apply a cold pack to calm it down
Step 3. Do not wear very tight underwear or clothes for a couple of days
Skin needs room to breathe and heal, so don't force it into tight clothing. If you can, spend a couple of hours indoors wearing only a bathrobe. Over the next two days, put on boxers instead of trunks and stay away from skinny jeans.
Step 4. Don't have sex for a couple of days
Very delicate skin is susceptible to infections, so it is advisable to wait until it is no longer red and inflamed before having sex.
Step 5. Don't sunbathe and don't use tanning beds
The delicate, pale skin that you have just shaved could easily burn if exposed to the sun or the tanning bed. It would still be best to avoid exposing this area to the sun, but if you wish to do so, wait several days.
Step 6. See a doctor if you notice any signs of infection
If an ingrown hair forms or you find that an area has become extremely irritated, you should see a doctor.
Advice
- Some argue that taking caffeine before waxing makes it less painful.
- Take an over-the-counter pain reliever before waxing.
- Do these tasks in a well-ventilated room. If you start sweating, the wax won't stick to your skin.
- Apply an exfoliating treatment 24 hours after waxing to reduce ingrown hair.
- Moisturizes the shaved skin every day until it's time to shave it again; in this way, you allow the hair to grow on the outside of the skin and not to incarnate, as well as reducing the number of hairs broken during tearing.
Warnings
- Do not go to the sauna, as the heat will cause excessive perspiration of the depilated areas.
- Avoid doing sports training after waxing for at least 24 hours.
- The skin of the penis and scrotum is very thin and prone to tearing, make sure it is tight before tearing the wax strip to minimize the chances of injury.
