If you're wondering what could be fashionable yet comfortable to wear for a jazz dance class, this is the place to look for an answer. Jazz dance is a lot of fun, but you can't always be comfortable in jeans! Express yourself with both dance and style!
Steps
Step 1. Always wear comfortable clothes during your dance class
This way you will be able to move faster and more smoothly. To help you, most teachers and ballet companies have a code regarding how to dress, or a guide or even a specific uniform.
Step 2. Put on some tights
Light flesh-colored tights will do just fine for jazz.
Step 3. Put on some dance shorts
These will help you be more flexible. Ultimately, don't wear jeans or similar clothes! You need to have specific clothes for dance or a similar activity, such as yoga.
Step 4. Make sure you wear fitted tops
Tight shirts and tank tops will allow your instructor to see if your body is in the correct position during jumps, leaps etc.
Step 5. Put on toeboards
Foot liners (foot undeez) are small socks that will give you support during the dance.
Step 6. Jazz dance shoes
Depending on the code you have to follow, you may need to wear jazz shoes. These can be of the lacing or tucking type. The latter are more practical and more comfortable.
Step 7. Tie your hair
Your hair will need to be pulled back into a ponytail or bun so it doesn't go over your face. If they are too short, hold them back with a zip tie.
Step 8. Wear good quality jazz shoes
Brands, brands, brands! There are so many to choose from that you probably won't be able to find your way around. Capezio and Bloch are among the best. Their dance clothes and shoes are functional and durable.
Step 9. Decide if you want to wear leotards or not
These are optional. Unless you have to wear them, you can choose. Bodysuits are the equivalent of one-piece swimsuits - same material and look, but some people don't like them.
Step 10. Express yourself
Wear your favorite colors and patterns!
Advice
- Keep your head up, trust yourself.
- Have fun during your jazz dance class!
- Feel yourself in the clothes you wear for the dance. And always be proud of what you're wearing!
- Ask if there is a dress code in your dance school before you go crazy about choosing colors.
- The trick with hurts, but in this case it's not worth it! Sweating would go away anyway. So it's better not to wear makeup to look prettier than to have smudged eyeliner streaks and foundation slipping down your neck - you wouldn't be attractive at all. Feel good the way you are. Nobody cares about your makeup - it matters how you dance!
- YOU SMILE!
