Do you have a bedroom full of junk and messy? The furniture you have now has tired you and you want to change it a bit? Then read this article to find out what to do!
Steps
Method 1 of 7: Clean the Floor
Step 1. Get some boxes (preferably large) and garbage bags
The more things you have, the more you will need.
Assign the following labels to some boxes: "Keep", "Donate / Sell" (then you will make a final decision) and "Keep Elsewhere". Don't label them all
Step 2. Designate a workspace
To work effectively, the floor must be clean. Collect everything you left on the ground and put it in one or more boxes.
Step 3. Examine the boxes in which you put the things collected from the ground
Step 4. Remove one thing at a time from the box and ask yourself the following questions about it:
- "How often do I use it?".
- "Can I throw it away?".
- "Can I keep it in this room?"
- If you don't use it often, get rid of it. If it is to be thrown away, put it in the garbage bag. If you don't need it in the bedroom, put it in the "Store Elsewhere" box for later storage.
- If you are going to keep it, put it in the "Keep" box.
Step 5. Continue until the box or boxes are completely empty
Method 2 of 7: Clean the Closet and Dresser
Step 1. Open the dresser to take out any clothes you don't like
Why keep them?
Step 2. Get rid of clothes that are too small or large
In the first case they will no longer fit you because maybe you have grown up or have put on a few pounds. If they are slightly larger, keep them, while throwing them away if they are huge. Not sure how a certain boss is doing? Try it.
Step 3. Put the clothes you intend to keep in a box
Fold them and put them away carefully, this will make it easier to organize them later.
Step 4. Open the closet and take out the clothes you don't like
Ask once again: why keep them?
Step 5. Get clothes that are too small or too big
If you have any doubts about it, try them.
Step 6. Also examine the shoe cabinet if you have one in the room
Get rid of shoes that are too tight, too loose or uncomfortable.
Step 7. Put the clothes you intend to keep in the boxes of things to keep
Fold them well and place them in the boxes where you already stored the clothes removed from the dresser (if they fit).
Method 3 of 7: Clean Containers and Drawers
Step 1. Decide which container or drawer to start with
If you deal with them one at a time, the procedure will weigh you less.
Step 2. Review the content
Evaluate each individual item just as you did with the things collected from the floor. Ask yourself the same questions.
Step 3. Switch to another container / drawer, examine it thoroughly and always ask yourself the same questions
Method 4 of 7: Clean the Desk
Step 1. Put all the things you have on your desk into a box
Step 2. Take one item at a time from the box to decide what to do
Step 3. Open the drawers or other compartments and examine them thoroughly
Some desks have several - if you haven't considered them before, take care of them now.
Method 5 of 7: Clean the Bookcase or Shelves
Step 1. Take one book at a time and ask yourself the following questions:
- "I read it?".
- "Am I interested in reading it?" (if you didn't).
- "Do I want to reread it?" (if you have already read it).
Step 2. Examine the trinkets and all decorative items, including trophies, snowballs and figurines
Examine them and ask yourself the following questions about it?
- "Is it nice to see?".
- "I like?".
- "Will he be okay in my new room?" (in case you need to redecorate it).
Method 6 of 7: Prepare for Redecorating
Putting Everything in Its Place
Step 1. Take the boxes and garbage bags out of the room, otherwise they will get in the way of the procedure
Here's where you can put them:
- Garbage bags must be thrown into the appropriate containers.
- The boxes containing the things to keep can be placed in another room for a few hours / day / week, depending on how long the work will take.
- The boxes containing the things to donate / sell can be placed in the garage or in the car.
- The boxes containing objects that must be stored in other places in the house can be emptied, placing every single thing in the room that belongs to it.
Step 2. Take the furniture out of the room
Step 3. Take your room measurements
That way, if you buy new furniture, you won't make a mistake. Measure it well: walls, windows, door and furniture present.
Write down the measurements
Choose the New Furniture
Step 1. Choose a theme, color or style
A homogeneous furniture allows to obtain a more beautiful result. Here are some ideas:
- Phosphorescent colors.
- Music.
- Nature.
- Sport.
- Purple and pink.
- Your favourite color.
Step 2. Decide which furniture to keep
Those you no longer need can be sold (the money will come in handy to upgrade the decor or buy other items for the room). If a piece of furniture fits the new style, keep it. If it is in stark contrast, get rid of it.
Method 7 of 7: Redecorate
Walls
Step 1. Choose a color / wallpaper
If the walls are wallpapered and you want to change them, measure them all (length, width and height). Write down your measurements to make sure you buy wallpaper that adheres well to the surface. If you want to repaint, choose a color that fits the overall style.
Step 2. Remove everything from the walls:
lamps, plates for light switches and sockets, pictures, shelves, etc.
Step 3. Repaint or put on the wallpaper
- Make sure you get a homogeneous result when you paint. Make several passes, waiting for the paint to dry completely between each coat.
- Smooth the wallpaper well so that no air bubbles form.
Step 4. Decide what to hang on the wall, such as paintings, drawings, pictures, tapestries, shelves, etc
Try not to overdo it and get an aesthetically pleasing result.
Mobile
Step 1. Rearrange the furniture
Arrange them where you want. There are no rules about it: consider your needs and tastes.
Step 2. Buy some new furniture and accessories to enrich the room, such as lamps, mirrors, dressing table, desk, pillows, sheets, chairs, etc
Make sure they fit the overall style.
Step 3. Arrange the new furniture in the places you prefer
Containers

Put them in a place where they don't get in your way.
Step 2. Use them to store the things you have decided to keep

Organize Clothes
Step 1. Put your clothes back in the dresser and closet
- Assign a drawer to each category of clothing and underwear. For example, in one you can keep briefs and socks, in another skirts and shorts, and so on.
- Organize the wardrobe following this criterion: long sleeves, short sleeves, tops, dresses (if you are a girl). Sort clothes by color.
- Make the front of each dress face the same direction.
Step 2. Buy new clothes to replace those donated or sold
Give yourself an afternoon of shopping! Buy shoes, clothes, accessories and so on.
Step 3. Organize the new clothes following the same criteria indicated above
Organize the Bookcase or Shelves
Step 1. Put the books back in place
- Organize them by gender.
- Arrange them alphabetically.
Step 2. Organize the shelves in an orderly manner
- Trophies can be arranged in chronological order (from first to last).
- Make several attempts to figure out which arrangement you prefer.
