Step 6. Leave the base and start looking for the ghost

The ghost's job is to jump out of hiding, surprise and catch a player. When someone encounters the ghost they must shout "Ghost catcher!" and run to the base. When the ghost takes someone, they take their place and become the new ghost. This method is less scary for younger children who don't like to stray too far from the base.

Step 8. Continue the game like this until everyone is captured

The last person caught becomes the ghost for the next round.

Method 2 of 2: Method

Step 1. Group 8 friends

Step 2. Select a base

It should only be reachable by a few people at the same time.

Step 3. Ask the shorter person to be the ghost

The ghost can only hide on the same side of the house.

Step 4. Start playing

The other players have to take 7 steps in the direction where they think the ghost is. If they don't find it, the ghost will jump out and catch the others.

Step 5. Escape if you get caught

Players who are touched by the ghost must escape to the spot from which the ghost appeared.

Step 6. Pursue

If the ghost is seen going to its hiding place, then it starts chasing the player who watched it.

Step 7. Continue until there are only 2 players left alive

These will go into hiding, then the others will go out and search the area. They can only look at one direction of the house, while the two remaining players go into hiding on the sides of the house.

Step 8. When the two surviving contestants feel it is safe to go to the base they have to run to 5 different places

The one who does not die wins.

Advice

  • Another variant: all players get a torch; then, two ghosts come out and go into hiding while the others split into two groups. At this point, the groups start counting to five and move in all directions. Ghosts have to hide or surprise players by scaring them. The other players must shout "GHOST CATCHER!" and run to the base as fast as possible.
  • Another variant, which includes a different playing place, that is an open field: the ghost starts from the base while the other players hide in the field. To make the game more fun, players can offer "gifts" to the ghost and make up a story about his death. The gifts can be toys, or other random objects that, for example, you would take to someone's grave.
  • Or, players looking for the ghost can hold hands. When they see the ghost, they let go of each other's hand and run home.
  • If there are many players, there can be several ghosts.
  • In another version, the game is based on how far the players manage to get away from the base without the ghost catching them; all players have to walk in line, if you get caught you become one of the ghosts until there are no more players left at the base.
  • Or, all players from the base have to go and find the ghost that lurks. The person who finds it must scream and everyone must escape the ghost and return to the base.
  • In a further variant of the game, the ghost must lie down in an empty area large enough to allow all participants to surround it. Then, the players start singing: "It's one, two, three …" until they get to midnight; at this point they have to shout "The ghost is free!" and run away from the ghost, which will jump and try to catch someone. The first person caught becomes the ghost of the next game.
  • Wait for it to get dark before playing.
  • In some variations of the game, the "ghost" counts to 12 and everyone screams "Midnight!" benefiting the ghost who can understand the position of the competitors.
  • The ghost can also be called "witch" or "killer".

Warnings

  • Be careful not to bump into objects scattered around the playing field. Collect hoses and gardening items before you begin.
  • Define the playing area before starting, to avoid possible quarrels.
  • Don't play this game in a real graveyard. It is very easy to damage graves and get hurt. Furthermore, it would be a lack of respect for the buried people and their families.
  • Do not scream too loud so as not to disturb the neighbors.
  • Ask your parents for permission to play outside, especially when it gets dark.
  • This game may not be suitable for elderly people with weak hearts, or small children who are easily frightened: when the "ghost" surprises you it can be scary.
