Dream catchers are circular ornaments, created with wood, suede, feathers and beads, and traditionally built by the Navajos (Native North Americans) people to hang outside their homes. They are typically created to keep children safe from bad dreams and are considered good luck. Read the tutorial and learn how to draw one. Let's begin!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Traditional
Step 1. Draw a ring shape to create a circle
Step 2. Draw a circle the size of a pinhead in the center of the circular shape and use it as a center point
Look at the image, the small circle serves as the basis for a figure formed by 8 partially overlapping leaves located at the same distance along the inner circumference of the circle.
Step 3. Define the circle as if it were crossed and wrapped in a rope by drawing curved lines
Step 4. Draw 3 pieces of string dangling below the circle and add oval and elongated shapes to the lower end of each string
Step 5. Refine the drawing and eliminate unnecessary lines
Step 6. Add shadows and colors to make your dream catcher look as realistic as possible
Don't forget to add the feather and bead details.
Method 2 of 2: Comics
Step 1. Draw a ring shape to create the dream catcher circle
Step 2. As in the image below, draw a 16-sided polygon inside the circle giving it the appearance of a star
Step 3. Add a second 16-sided polygon by placing it inside the figure created in the previous step
Step 4. Continue by drawing other polygons smaller and smaller and positioned inside the previous one
Stop when too small dimensions would create a shape that is not easily recognizable.
Step 5. Add the details:
an upper rope to hang the dream catcher, three ropes dangling from the lower part and three elongated figures placed at the ends of the three ropes. The three strings of the lower part are placed in the center, on the right and on the left, as in the image.
