Are you tired of always eating the same fruit and vegetables? Try something new! Rather than eat it, try to use it to paint …
Ingrediants
- Interestingly shaped fruits or vegetables when cut (and not too wet), e.g. okra, beans, apples, pears, etc.
- Fruits or vegetables that can be easily cut into interesting shapes, such as potatoes, carrots, etc.
Steps
Step 1. Prepare your paper or card, or whatever material you want to use for painting
Step 2. Prepare the colors (water colors, such as watercolors, are not recommended)
Prepare a color palette. Prepare a plate or scoop rather than take the color directly from the jar, otherwise there may be bits of fruit and vegetables left that will eventually mold!
Step 3. The color texture should be liquid and fluid, but not too watery
Don't make it too firm either.
Step 4. Create the first fruit and vegetable design - a flower
The instructions are in the next steps.
Step 5. Paint the "flower" part first:
- Cut one end of the okra (or a similar vegetable) and remove a piece along its entire length. Clean it so that there are no threads or seeds.
- Dip the ends in a color, choosing the one you prefer. Since you are making a flower choose a color that works well for the subject.
- Use the vegetable as a mold and apply it on the paper, wherever you prefer. Don't press too hard or the color may smudge or the vegetable may even break.
Step 6. Switch to painting the "leaves":
- Cut a green bean along its length oblique. With this piece you can make the leaves of the flower.
- Dip the piece of green bean in the green color and apply the mold under the flower.
- You can also use this piece to make the petals and use the tip of a pencil to make the center of the flower.
Step 7. Try using other fruits and vegetables
Potatoes are fine and perfect for children (they are easy to hold) and can be carved into shapes, such as stars, moons or circles. Look for fruit or vegetables with interesting seeds, which can create patterns on the paper.
Step 8. Finished
Advice
- Rehearse in old newspapers for practice.
- Apply little color to fruit and vegetables to avoid smudging.
- Make a floral frame on your welcome cards or for a scrapbook.
Warnings
- Wash everything thoroughly after painting and throw away fruit and vegetables as they cannot be eaten.
- Make sure you use the knives carefully as you work on this project.
