Mirrors are beautiful and even more noteworthy when decorated with a personal touch. To make yours stand out, or to match the room, you'll need to put your artistic side into practice. Are you ready?
Steps
Step 1. Create basic designs with the stencil
The easiest way to decorate a plain mirror and make it look awesome is to stencil designs on the glass. Buy one at an art store, cover the areas you don't want to stain with newspaper and duct tape, spray some glass paint and create the design. If you want, you can also use non-traditional stencils, such as paper doilies or even leaves.
Step 2. Try a cozy motif like Alice in Wonderland
You can make an adorable mirror with an Alice in Wonderland pattern using basic items. Grab a doll tea set and use hot glue to attach a teacup to the edge of the mirror. So take a pocket watch and attach some velcro on the back and on the part of the mirror where you will attach it (the opposite angle to the cup is perfect). Use decoupage glue (such as Mod Podge) to coat the rest of the mirror with tea bag labels to create whatever pattern you like. You can also attach playing cards to a string and arrange them like a garland on the bottom of the mirror.
Step 3. Create a classy Tuscan look
Use corks cut in half to create a frame around the mirror. Attach bunches of grapes and fake leaves with hot glue on the corners or edges of the mirror, as you like. If you find any wine bottle charms, they could complement your artwork.
Step 4. Try a natural, forest-inspired look
You can use natural materials that suit your style. With hot glue, attach twigs that are intertwined together, or use other objects such as stones or fake leaves. You can also combine these three elements to create a mini-forest. If you want to make the mirror look like it is sticking out of the middle of a tree, place the stones on the bottom, the twigs on the sides, and the leaves on the top.
Step 5. Make a mosaic effect frame
You can purchase mosaic tiles from art stores or make your own from ceramic pieces. To attach the mosaic parts to the mirror use glue or mortar. Before hanging the mirror or hanging something on it, make sure the pieces are well arranged and secured. If you used mortar, make sure the mirror is strong enough to hold the weight.
Step 6. For an elegant and feminine look, you can make a mirror suitable for a princess
With découpage glue (like Mod Podge), start sticking on the frame some colored paper with patterns of your liking. Then, with hot glue, attach strings of pearls, pink beads and paper flowers to them. Try to use imagination and creativity!
Step 7. Try a marine motif
This design is a classic and super easy to do at home. Buy some string at a tool shop and, with hot glue, create a frame by wrapping the string around the mirror as you like. You can let your imagination run wild and for example attach a dried starfish to the top or bottom of the mirror.
Step 8. Create a design with colored buttons
If you want to make your home more colorful, a mirror with a frame covered with buttons is just for you. Buy a large pack of mixed buttons on eBay or at an antique store and attach them to the edges of the mirror as desired with hot glue. Also try to layer them in random order, for a textured effect.
Step 9. Make a mirror for Christmas
You can make a themed mirror for the Christmas period with a few simple items available in art or home improvement stores. Hang decorative lights on string or ribbon and pin the ends to the top two corners of the mirror. Surround the edges of the mirror with branches (real or fake) of a Christmas tree, sticking them to the walls with masking tape. To top it off, you can tie a beautiful red Christmas bow. Attach it with duct tape to the bottom center of the mirror
Step 10. Try a sports theme
You can create the perfect mirror for a man's home or room by placing a mirror inside a tennis racket! Glue the mirror and hang the racket on the wall. Another method of making this mirror is to spray paint in the colors of your favorite teams onto plastic caps and stick them on the outside of the mirror.
Step 11. Try a travel fantasy
Another very easy and always fashionable theme is that of travel. You can customize it based on important trips you have made or you can also generalize. Use decoupage glue (such as Mod Podge) to attach pieces of map to cover the mirror frame. When the glue dries, attach postcards and stamps. To add a touch of originality, you can even design fake passport stamps!
