Making a purse can be an idea to make a useful gift or even for a simple hobby project. If you want to surprise your partner with an original surprise or maybe you just want to find a fun weekend job, wikiHow can help! Take a look at the section titles of this article listed above to choose the method you prefer to follow.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Coin Purse Made with Aluminum Juice Papers
Step 1. Gather what you need
You will need two aluminum and plastic pouches for fruit juices or soft drinks (pouches such as those of "Yoga Tasky" fruit juices for example), duct tape, Velcro strips (both sides) and scissors.
Step 2. Prepare the cartons
Make a cut at the bottom (flat) to drain the remaining liquid well. If the pouches have a straw built in, you will need to remove it carefully (in general, this is not the ideal type of pouch for this use).
Step 3. Cut the masking tape
Cut three strips of duct tape, two 10cm and one 15cm, and then cut each strip in half, following the long side. A ruler and precision cutter are the best tools for this task.
Step 4. Attach the strips of masking tape
Take the two pouches and attach the adhesive tape to the top and bottom of the first, and only to the bottom of the second. Use the shorter strip of tape (10cm). Start by attaching half of the strip to the underside of the foil and then folding the other half to cover the other side.
Step 5. Fold the first foil
Fold the bag (the one with two strips of tape) in two in two. The fold must be between the middle and a third of the foil, so one of the two parts will be longer.
Step 6. Insert one foil inside the other
Place the short side of the folded packet on the table (the other side will remain facing upwards) and place the second packet on top of it, with the front side down, facing the table. Use the last 10cm strip of masking tape to stick them together along the meeting point.
Step 7. Attach the masking tape along the sides
Fold the remaining part of the second foil so that the sides meet on the back (usually silver in color). Use the two longer strips of masking tape to attach the two pouches to each other along the sides and remove any protruding pieces of masking tape.
Step 8. Cut the openings
With a cutter, cut the adhesive tape on both sides of the pockets thus created so that you can open them completely.
Step 9. Add the velcro
Attach a piece of Velcro to the purse where you want to add the closure. Place the other piece of Velcro on top of it and then close the flap of the pocket. This way the velcro will stick in the right place. All that remains is to enjoy the new purse!
Method 2 of 3: Triangular Leather Coin Purse
Step 1. Get the materials
You will need a piece of very thin faux leather or genuine leather, a cutter, very strong glue, a button, a leather needle, thread and scissors.
Step 2. Prepare the model
You will need a template to guide you to cut a large equilateral triangle. Search for "equilateral triangle" on Google Images and print one of the resulting images to use as a guide model.
Step 3. Use the template created to cut the leather triangle
Place the shape on the underside of the leather, make a mark around it and cut very carefully with the utility knife.
Step 4. Fold the skin
Fold the top corner towards the center of the opposite side and then one of the two remaining sides to cover the first crease. The unfolded side will become the flap of the purse.
Step 5. Sew the button
On the mirror side of the flap, mark where you want to sew the button. Sew the button to the top of the leather, in the center and about 2 cm away from the opposite tip.
Step 6. Create the pocket
Glue the two folded sides together to create the pocket. The part with the button must remain on top, so that by folding the flap the flap meets the button.
Step 7. Cut the buttonhole for the button
Cut a small opening on the flap to create the buttonhole.
Step 8. Add the finishing touches
You can add decorations, for example with gold paint, or even glue a hem on the edges to make them more regular if you like.
Method 3 of 3: Cloth Purse
Step 1. Gather the necessary fabric and materials
30 square centimeters of fabric should be enough, but it's best to keep plenty of it.
Step 2. Matching the right sides together, fold the piece of fabric in half
The folded side will become the bottom of the purse. Sew the sides together, leaving a border of about 1 - 1.5 cm.
Step 3. Create the hem
Turn the top of the piece of fabric on itself twice to create a 1 - 1.5 cm hem and use an iron to flatten it well.
Step 4. Insert the lace
Insert a string or strip of fabric inside the hem to use as a lace.
Step 5. Sew the hem
Close the hem with a seam, leaving openings for the two ends of the lace.
Step 6. Tie a knot on the lace
Knot the two ends of the lace to create stops that prevent it from disappearing into the hem.
Step 7. Turn the fabric back on itself
Step 8. Pull the lace to close the opening
Close the lace with a bow or double knot.
Step 9. Finished
Advice
- Decorate the purse with sequins, buttons or glitter glue.
- The "edge" is the portion of fabric between the seam and the end.
