From time to time, we need to take a break and relax so that we can better compare ourselves with the outside world. A nap helps us feel fresher and more focused to be more productive.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure there are no distractions (you can't take a nap at school or work)
Step 2. Make sure you have no commitments
The thought of an unfinished task can prevent you from sleeping.
Step 3. Wear comfortable, light and soft clothing
Step 4. When washing the sheets, add a fabric softener with a fragrance you like, such as lavender
But don't overdo it, you don't have to be overwhelmed by the scent.
Step 5. Arrange the pillow and blankets
Make sure there are no wrinkles in the sheets that might bother you. If you don't have a pillow, use something soft available (put your head on your hands or use a sweatshirt, etc …)
Step 6. Go to the bathroom
You can't take a nap if you have to get up.
Step 7. Turn off the lights, TV, music and all other distractions
Step 8. Lie down in a comfortable position
Step 9. Close your eyes and think of something beautiful
Step 10. Relax and breathe gently
Advice
- Don't focus on sleep, just let yourself go. It will be harder to fall asleep if you try hard to do so.
- Get a source of "white noise" - a constant, repetitive sound that relaxes you and makes you sleepy (like a fan). If you play music, let it be instrumental only: words can distract you.
- Sometimes the light can give you a bit of a headache after a light nap, try to accustom your eyes gradually.
- Wake up slowly. You will be less irritable and more motivated to cope with the rest of the day.
- A short nap after studying helps you memorize.
- Make sure you are very tired or bored before taking a nap.
- Keep the room temperature a couple of degrees lower than usual.
Warnings
- Don't take a nap just before going to bed, you'll have a sleepless night.
- Don't sleep to fight depression. Go to a therapist to solve your problems instead of hiding them under the covers.
- Make sure you don't sleep for less than an hour at a time. You can also take more than one nap per day.
- If you are at work, make sure no one sees you. Beware of surveillance cameras and other curious people.
- Perhaps your nap can be an excuse for not completing your duties. To feel better, finish some short tasks, or carry out a more complex project for a while. The sense of accomplishment helps you relax.
