Caffeine is a drug, in this case, a stimulant substance that causes addiction. If you are tired of being addicted to caffeine consumption, read on.
Steps
Step 1. You must believe and understand that you can overcome this addiction
Step 2. Accept that the process will take as long as it takes and that it will be excruciatingly painful
Withdrawal symptoms can include headaches, nausea, restlessness, sleepiness, irritability, and other ailments.
Step 3. Calculate how much money you spend a year on coffee, tea, cola or other caffeinated products and think about what you would like to do with that money on hand
If you spend € 2.5 a day, it costs you almost € 1000 a year!
Step 4. Read all the articles and studies you can find on caffeine to understand the side effects it causes in the body
Step 5. Increase your water consumption
It is especially important during the first few days, because the body has to regulate itself. Caffeine is a diuretic that leads to fluid loss. The effects are mild for those who consume caffeine in moderation, but for those who are addicted or drink mostly energy drinks, the consequences can be more serious. Too much caffeine with inadequate water consumption can easily cause dehydration and numerous health problems. It is understandable considering that the human body is made up of about 75% water.
Step 6. Get all kinds of aids
You will need all the help you can get. Think in advance about the moments when you might be more fragile (perhaps in the morning, when you are driving to the bar where you usually have breakfast, for example) and resort to something that allows you to face these moments of weakness, you comfort and you help to banish the thought of caffeine. It could be a stuffed animal, a pocket video game, a phone call to your best friend, a crossword puzzle. Get everything that generates security and try to always have it at hand.
Step 7. Find time to rest and recover
Try not to make any commitments for at least the first three weeks after you decide to give up caffeine and give your body all the rest it needs by eating fresh fruit and vegetables.
Step 8. When you promise yourself to give up caffeine forever, grab a piece of paper and write the date and time
Stick it in a spot where you will be able to see it every day. If you ever transgress, tear it up and throw it away. Then make a new promise and write it on another piece of paper. Keep doing this until you can stop.
