Is the first thing you do as soon as you wake up to log into your FB / Twitter / Myspace / Friendster / Orkut account? Is this also the last thing you do before going to bed? Did study and work take a secondary position in your calendar? The problem is easily diagnosed: you are addicted to social networks. If you want to overcome this deleterious addiction, here are some steps that will hopefully get you to open a real book, rather than Facebook.
Steps
Step 1. Be aware of your addiction
Accept that you are addicted and that you need to be able to overcome your problem and improve your lifestyle.
Step 2. Whenever you feel the need to log in and see the latest news, stop and think, first of all, why you joined the social network:
to keep in touch with your friends.
Step 3. Now, think about how much time you spend on these activities
Make an honest list of the times required for your various online activities. For example, 15 minutes to check and respond to notifications, 10 minutes to update your profile, etc.
Step 4. Now, stick to this roadmap and only use the social networking site when you know you've finished your work day
Don't allow yourself to be online another 20 minutes before returning to work. It doesn't work, and you will spend the next 2 hours doing nothing in front of the monitor, leaving your work on hold. Log into your account only once you are free of all your responsibilities.
Step 5. Delete unnecessary contacts
The more your contacts are, the longer it will take you to read the Home while you could do something else. Reduce the number of your digital friends, bringing it back to 2 digits and leaving only your real friends, whom you know in person
Step 6. If you need to take an exam or have an important commitment soon, temporarily deactivate your account or install COLD TURKEY, a program that blocks access to sites such as Facebook (works well)
Step 7. Think about the useful things you could accomplish instead of wasting your time on these sites
You could: learn a new language, play an instrument, socialize physically (not virtually), work out, learn a new recipe, walk the dog and meet someone, go on a date with a beautiful girl, do yoga, read a book or pursue a hobby.
Step 8. If none of the above tips worked, take a deep breath, take heart, and delete your account forever
Remember, it's for your own good.
Step 9. Believe in yourself
You know you can do it, overcome your addiction.
Advice
- Don't log into your account for a day, then three, then a week, and see how it goes.
- Think about the satisfaction you will have when you are no longer a slave to addictions.
- Whenever you feel the urge to log into your account, say to yourself a peremptory NO! Control yourself.
- Give your account password to a trusted friend and ask him to change it, for your good.
Warnings
- Don't blame yourself, social networks can lead to addiction, everyone knows.
- There is nothing wrong with asking for help, don't hesitate.
